AUSTIN (KXAN) -- The three suspects in the shooting death of an active-duty airman in Cedar Park have been charged with first-degree murder, according to documents filed in court.

Cedar Park police say Austin Burroughs was shot and killed in the parking lot of his Cedar Park apartment complex at the 2200 block of South Lakeline Boulevard on Jan 20. A car was seen driving from the scene that was registered to 19-year-old Elanna Wilkes who had been linked to robberies in the past.

Investigators arrested Wilkes along with 20-year-old Cornelius Martin and 19-year-old Darius Burdett-Hornsby and all three now face first-degree murder charges in connection with Burroughs' death.

The three told investigators differing stories about what happened the night Burroughs was killed, according to multiple affidavits, but they all agree on one fact: Burdett-Hornsby was holding the gun that killed Burroughs.

Wilkes told investigators that on the night of Jan. 20, she was driving her white Kia Rio while Martin was in the front passenger seat, according to affidavits filed in court. The two picked up Burdett-Hornsby and they smoked marijuana together. The trio drove to two apartment complexes with the intention of robbing homes and drug dealers.

At Lakeline Apartments, "Elanna said that Darious [sic] was going to 'rob a plug' for weed," officials wrote in the affidavit, referring to their intention of robbing a drug dealer. Martin gave Burdett-Hornsby his gun, according to an affidavit.

Martin and Wilkes told investigators that the gun belonged to Martin but he gave it to Burdett-Hornsby. Martin told police that at the first robbery, Wilkes stayed in the car and he and Burdett-Hornsby robbed an old lady.

Later at the Lakeline Apartments, "Cornelius said that after arriving and parking in the complex Darious [sic] got out of the vehicle and 'that n---- killed somebody,'" police wrote in the affidavit. "Cornelius said that after Darious [sic] got back into the vehicle he put a gun to Elanna's head and told her to drive away."

Burdett-Hornsby told police that Burroughs' death was accidental. He told police "he walked over to the victim's vehicle and attempted to open the car door as the victim was exiting. Darious [sic] said that the victim attempted to take the handgun and when he did the gun 'went off.'" Burdett-Hornsby told police he got back in the car and Martin demanded he give the gun back to him and hasn't seen it since.

Burroughs's wife picked out Burdett-Hornsby as the man who allegedly shot and killed her husband.

Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the shooting death of an airman assigned to Goodfellow Air Force Base, in Texas, local police said Monday.
Airman 1st Class Austin R. Burroughs, 22, was killed in front of his wife during a robbery Jan. 20 in Cedar Park, a suburb of Austin, according to police.
Burroughs was found with a gunshot wound to the neck when police arrived at the scene. An initial investigation reported that Burroughs was killed after parking at his apartment complex and exiting his personal vehicle at about 9:15 p.m.
Cedar Park Police Chief Sean Mannix said during a press conference Monday that Burroughs' life was taken by the “senseless and cowardly actions of a group of armed robbers.”
Although police attempted to apply life-saving measures when they found Burroughs, he was pronounced dead at the scene, Mannix said.
Burroughs “had a promising career in front of him," Mannix added. “His life was taken by a group that appears to have gone out with the sole purpose of robbing people at gunpoint that night."
Three people, Cornelius Martin, Darius Burdett-Hornsby and Elanna Wilkes, were arrested and charged with murder Thursday and Friday.
The three are also allegedly connected to two other armed robberies in Austin the day after Burroughs was killed. Mannix said that while those robberies were conducted at gunpoint, there were no injuries associated.
Mannix could not say whether anything was taken from Burroughs' vehicle, due to the ongoing investigation to gather evidence.
Video surveillance obtained from a nearby business was used to identify a vehicle that police determined was used in connection with the murder of Burroughs, based on its entrance and rapid exit of the parking lot where he was killed. The white, four-door vehicle was registered to Wilkes.
Forensic evidence and other witnesses still need to be examined, Mannix said.
Burroughs was a student assigned to the 316th Training Squadron at Goodfellow AFB. He was on temporary duty assignment from the 311th Training Squadron at the Presidio of Monterey, California, Stars and Stripes previously reported.
“We grieve for the loss of an airman from the 17th Training Wing Team,” Col. Ricky L. Mills, 17th Training Wing commander, said in a statement provided to Air Force Times. “Our deepest sympathies go out to the family, friends, and fellow students of Airman 1st Class Burroughs at this difficult time.”
Burroughs was a cryptologic language analyst who had joined the Air Force in May 2017, according to Stars and Stripes.
He was a recent graduate of the Defense Language Institute, in Monterey, according to records from the Air Force Personnel Center.

Austin, TX
January 20th, 2019 - Austin Burroughs was murdered right after parking at his apartment. The 3 suspects, now in custody, were currently out on Personal Recognizance bonds for a range of charges from Aggravated Robbery down to Assault. Read the full news article by clicking here.

How were these 3 allowed on the streets to commit such a heinous crime? We can lay the blame solely on the "soft on crime" approach by Travis County Judges and Magistrates. Here is a brief run down of each defendant with their pending cases.

Elanna Wilkes - In March of 2018 Elanna was arrested for Assault with Injury Family Violence. She was arrested on 3/1/18 and released on PR bond 3/2/18. According to the affidavit:
Elanna retrieved a meat clever-style knife from the bedroom. Javone said that Elanna then made a swiping motion with the knife in front of him, which he believed to be an attempt by her to cut him.
You can read the full affidavit by clicking here.
Now we can fast forward to December of 2018 and a warrant was issued for her arrest for False Statement to Obtain Property or Credit. You can read the full report here and see what she was up to while out on the PR bond.

Cornelius Martin - On 5/17/16 Cornelius had a warrant issued for his arrest for an Aggravated Robbery. He was arrested on 6/7/16 and placed into the Travis County Correctional Complex. On 11/12/16 Cornelius picked up another charge for assaulting another inmate. Despite the seriousness of the Aggravated Robbery and Assaulting another inmate, he was granted 2 personal bonds and released from jail. Cornelius' PR bonds were revoked on 12/9/16 for non compliance and warrants were issued for his arrest, he was rearrested on the warrants on 4/20/17. Once again he found himself in the Travis County Correctional Complex until 5/18/17 when he was released on PR bonds once again. Cornelius once again had his PR bonds revoked for non-compliance on 6/21/17 and warrants were issued for his arrest. On 8/21/17, he was arrested on the outstanding warrants for Aggravated Robbery and Assault, but also picked up 2 new charges for Possession of a Controlled Substance (MDMA/Ecstasy) and Unlawful Carrying of Weapon.

You would think that with his history of having warrants, non-compliance, and picking up new charges he would stay in custody. Travis County saw it another way and released him again, on Personal Bonds for all 4 charges on 4/9/18. The PR bonds were revoked on 6/19/18 and warrants once again issued for his arrest. The warrants remained active until the Lonestar Fugitive Task Force apprehended him a few days after he was named a suspect in the murder of the Air Force Service Member. You can see a copy of all the affidavits and Personal Bonds right here.

Darius Burdett-Hornsby
- On 6/12/18 Darius had a warrant issued for his arrest for assaulting his aunt. According to the Affidavit:
It was during this struggle for the clothing that the suspect then and there struck the victim in the chin causing her pain to her jaw.
Darius was arrested on 6/13/18 for the assault and was released on a Personal Bond on 6/21/18. While he was out PR bond he received another charge for Failure to ID on 11/24/18 and was released on PR bond again. Darius had court the morning of 12/14/18 and failed to appear for both charges and warrants were issued for his arrest. You can see a copy of the PR bonds and warrants here. That brings us back to the fateful night of January 20th, 2019 when Austin Burroughs was murdered.

Please take a few seconds and use our "Call to Action" to email your State Senators and Representatives and let them know you do not want your Taxpayer dollars being used for the release of accused individuals.

Woman gets life in prison for 2019 murder of Air Force man in Cedar Park

A Williamson County jury has sentenced a woman to life in prison this week after finding her guilty of the murder of a 22-year-old Air Force man in a Cedar Park apartment parking lot in 2019.
Elanna Wilkes, an Austin resident, was one of three people charged in the shooting death of Austin Robert Burroughs on Jan. 20, 2019, outside the Lakeline Villas apartment complex at 2201 S. Lakeline Blvd. in Cedar Park. Austin residents Cornelius Martin and Darious Burdett-Hornsby are both charged with capital murder in Burroughs' death. Their trials are still pending.

Wilkes told police they planned to rob Burroughs because they mistakenly thought he was a drug dealer, according to an arrest affidavit. She said she did not participate in the shooting, the affidavit said.

Elanna Wilkes was convicted of murder in the death of Austin Burroughs in Cedar Park in 2019.

"While Elanna was not the person that pulled the trigger, she was definitely involved in several robberies and the murder of Austin Burroughs," Williamson County District Attorney Shawn Dick said on Friday.
Wilkes initially was indicted for capital murder.

"The jury deliberated for two days and ultimately found her guilty of the lesser included offense of murder," said Dick. "After the punishment phase of trial. the jury quickly returned a sentence of life in prison."
Wilkes was convicted and sentenced on Monday, according to court records.
Wilkes' attorney did not respond to a request for comment. Wilkes told investigators she drove to the apartment complex with Martin and Burdett-Hornsby and parked in the back because Burdett-Hornsby was going to rob a drug dealer for marijuana, the affidavit said.

It said a short time after Burdett-Hornsby got out of the car, Wilkes heard a man say, "No, you got the wrong guy," then heard a gunshot followed by a woman saying, "Baby are you OK?"
Wilkes said Burdett-Hornsby got back into the car and apologized to Martin about what happened, the affidavit said. Burroughs' wife, who was with him, called 911 around 9:18 p.m., the affidavit said. Burroughs had a gunshot wound to the neck and died at the scene at 9:30 p.m., police have said.

His Name Is Austin R. Burroughs: White Air Force Airman Gunned Down by Three Blacks in "Senseless, Cowardly" Murder in Safe Suburb of Austin, Texas

A white enlisted member of the Air Force was gunned down in front of his wife by three blacks out with “the sole purpose of robbing people at gunpoint.”

Not one media outlet in Austin, Texas or even the funeral home where his memorial was held will admit he was a white male (not one telecast by the local media has shown his picture).

If white privilege exists, why is the death of a white male (Austin Burroughs) at the hands of three blacks not the biggest story in the nation? [Three are arrested in ‘senseless, cowardly’ killing of airman in Texas, Stripes.com, 1-28-19]:

Three people have been arrested in the shooting death of an active-duty airman, the Cedar Park Police Department announced Monday.
In not one local news story in Austin, Texas of the murder of Austin Burroughs is his picture shown. Why is the local media and the Air Force so afraid to admit he was a white male gunned down “randomly” by three blacks?

Police Chief Sean Mannix described the “senseless, cowardly actions” that took the life of Airman 1st Class Austin Robert Burroughs on Jan. 20 as a random armed robbery in a safe area of town.
“His life was taken by a group that appears to have gone out with the sole purpose of robbing people at gunpoint that night,” Mannix said. So far, the three are also connected to two other armed robberies on Jan. 21 in Austin.
Cornelius Martin, Darius Burdett-Hornsby and Elanna Wilkes, all of Austin, were arrested Jan. 24 and Jan. 25 and were being held in Travis County Jail. They will be transported to neighboring Williamson County, where Cedar Park is located and where all three suspects are charged with murder, Mannix said.
Cedar Park is a northwestern suburb of Austin with a low violent crime rate.
Mannix said in his six years with the police department, this is the first felony case with a death in which the individuals did not know each other. In 2018, only two homicides were reported, said Alicia Inns, police department spokeswoman.
Burroughs, a cryptologic language analyst, joined the Air Force on May 30, 2017.
He recently graduated from the Defense Language Institute at Presidio of Monterey, Calif., according to records from the Air Force Personnel Center. He was on temporary duty as a student with the 316th Training Squadron at Goodfellow Air Force Base near San Angelo, Texas, en route to his first duty assignment.
Burroughs and his wife are from Texas and private services were held in Pflugerville during the weekend.
On Jan. 20, police responded to a call of shot fired at 9:15 p.m. at the Lakeline Villas Apartments, and found Burroughs, 22, dead of a gunshot wound to the neck, Mannix said. He was pronounced dead at 9:30 p.m.
Burroughs and his wife, who lived at the complex, had just arrived there and he was shot as he exited the driver’s side of the vehicle, police said in the initial release of information following the incident. Mannix would not say Monday which suspect is believed to have pulled the trigger.
Video surveillance footage collected from a nearby business during the investigation showed a vehicle registered to Wilkes rapidly exiting the parking lot quickly after the time of the shooting, police said. The vehicle had a previous history of being connected to aggravated robberies, Mannix said.
Wilkes and Martin were arrested on warrants in a traffic stop in Killeen, Texas, on Jan. 24 and Burdett-Hornsby was arrested on warrants the next day.
Mannix, who said Burroughs had a “promising career in the Air Force,” wouldn’t comment on the condition of the Burroughs’ family, but he said the county’s victims services staff have been in contact with them.
“I’m proud of the collective effort that is helping to honor Austin’s memory by bringing those believed to be responsible to the justice system,” he said.

Austin’s memory is worth honoring, but why has not one media outlet shown us his picture?
The funeral parlor where Austin’s service was held has even removed the obituary (
accessible via the cached page) and is not answering questions regarding when the funeral service was even held.Austin R. Burroughs was a white member of the Air Force, who volunteered to defend his nation, never really knowing it was no longer his country, but one occupied by an elite undeniably hostile to white males.

Which is the main reason why his murder (and pictures of him) has been censored from public consumption.

Rest in peace, Austin.

Austin’s memory is worth honoring, but why has not one media outlet shown us his picture?
Because victim was military, pictures would show he was a White man who was murdered in cold blood by 3 BLACKS out looking to rob.
It would, and probably did rile up a few of the Whites on base or on the economy.
US Military had to put out orders to squash all mention in thee sacred "News" to prevent armed soldiers from finding out causing a real potential threat of retaliating.

LET'S HONOR HIS MEMORY BY OBLITERATING ALL REPORTS OF
Austin Robert Burroughs' from the public's view.
Not one notice of funeral, no obituary, US Military's refusal to share his photos.
COWARDS.
