Abandoned Baby Found

South Philadelphia, June 3, 2005 ”” Police discovered an abandoned baby boy early Friday morning in South Philadelphia. The hunt is on to find the child's parents.A photograph of the infant is now available.

The infant was discovered near a dumpster in the area of 22nd and Shunk streets in South Philadelphia. (Damn, why don't these mammies put their niglets IN the dumpsters, where they belong?)

At this point, the baby has no name, no permanent home, and no one to call mom. He was left along a damp sidewalk in South Philadelphia just before sunrise. Detectives are searching for his identity, and his mother.

Police found the baby boy lying in a patch of grass. The boy, described
as an African-American newborn
, was in good condition, but paramedics rushed the infant to the hospital anyway.

Nearby, police found a jacket in a dumpster, that may have belonged to the child.

The report of the abandoned baby came in just before 6 a.m. A female called 911 from a pay phone across the street. They wonder if the caller is actually the baby's mother. They wonder if she also waited at the scene until patrolmen arrived to insure the child's safety. Detectives asked neighbors if they saw anyone, or knew who the mother might be.

If the mother, whoever she is, had abandoned the child at this hospital, or any other in Pennsylvania, she could have left no questions asked. It's called the "Safe Haven Law." Instead, when police find her, she could face criminal charges.
