HUMBLE, Texas — An 18-year-old is dead after EMS found him unresponsive at a party with a gunshot wound Saturday night, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office.

This happened around 11 p.m. on Fieldwick Lane near the Forest Shadows community in Humble.

According to the sheriff's office, this incident started as a welfare check call after deputies received reports of underage drinking at a short-term rental property. Both deputies and EMS arrived at the scene and the 18-year-old was found unresponsive. EMS attempted CPR before realizing the teen had been shot.

The victim, identified by family as Jarvon Coles, was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators believe that at some point during the party, a car with several people inside drove by and opened fire. Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said it appears that the shooter or shooters fired from about a block away.

Nearby residents told KHOU 11's Katiera Winfrey they heard several gunshots in the area.

"I knew something was wrong because the investigators were still here until four-something this morning," said Jackie Metcalfe, who lives nearby. "I knew something terrible had happened."

HCSO was working to gather nearby surveillance video to develop a description of the suspects and their vehicle.

Family told KHOU 11 News Coles was a senior at North Shore High School and a two-time first-team all-district linebacker.

If you have any information about this incident, you're asked to contact the Harris County Sheriff's Office at 713-274-9100 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-8477.
