Police offering $5,000 for Florida mall shooter arrest

The suspected gunman in the Paddock Mall shooting in Ocala, Florida, has been identified.

Authorities in Florida have issued an arrest warrant for the man they accuse of fatally shooting another man that he "targeted" at a shopping mall two days before Christmas.

The Ocala Police Department is asking for the public's help, including announcing Sunday a $5,000 reward, in locating Albert Shell Jr., 39, who is wanted for premeditated first-degree murder and attempted premeditated first-degree murder, according to a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.
During a press conference, Ocala Police Chief Mike Balken said the victim was killed after he was shot multiple times in a common area at Paddock Mall, which is about 80 miles northwest of Orlando.
When arriving at the scene, officers found David Nathaniel Barron, 40, dead inside the mall and a woman who was shot in the leg. The woman was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to police.

Several other people inside the mall suffered injuries during the shooting, including one person with chest pain and another with a broken arm, police said.
Police said Shell ran from the mall after the shooting.
In response to the shooting, the mall released a statement to say it would remain closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Ocala Police released a photograph of alleged gunman Albert J Shell Jr, 39, who is still on the run and wanted for the premeditated first-degree murder of David Nathaniel Barron, 40, at Paddock Mall on Saturday.

Shell - a bald, bearded black man with tattoos of a cross on his forehead, a teardrop below one eye and the outline of a necklace on his chest - appears expressionless in the police photo, with his eyes averted away from the photographer.

Police also shared surveillance footage of a man they believed 'tampered with crucial evidence by taking the shooter's red hat' from the bloody aftermath of the attack.

'That hat may contain valuable DNA evidence,' the department said as it urged anyone who recognized the secondary suspect to contact them.

The man appears to be white and of medium build with tattooed arms in the surveillance footage, showing him strolling through the mall with a bag in his hand.

Ocala Police previously shared photographs of Shell on Saturday, when he allegedly killed Barron and injured a woman in the 'targeted' attack.

Authorities responded to calls reporting an 'active shooter' at the Paddock Mall in Ocala, located 80 miles northwest of Orlando, around 3.40 pm Saturday.

Barron was shot multiple times - including in the head - and pronounced dead at the scene. A woman, who was shot in the leg, was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive.

At a press conference on Saturday evening, police said they believed it was a 'targeted act' and that Barron was the intended victim.
