Cosby Seeking Defense Lawyer For Pa. Criminal Probe
September 23, 2015 7:04 AM

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Comedian Bill Cosby is seeking to hire a criminal defense lawyer as suburban prosecutors revisit a 2005 sexual-assault complaint against him.

Lawyer Edwin Jacobs said late Tuesday that Cosby’s agents had contacted him in the past few days about a pending investigation in Montgomery County. Jacobs, who had represented Cosby in a review of another accuser’s complaint in New Jersey, said he referred Cosby’s agents to another high-profile Philadelphia-area lawyer.

That other lawyer did not return message seeking comment late Tuesday. The Philadelphia Inquirer first reported Tuesday on Jacobs’ involvement in the case.

Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman wouldn’t confirm her office is reinvestigating the complaint by former Temple University employee Andrea Constand. However, she said in a recent statement “prosecutors have a responsibility to review past conclusions … when current information might lead to a different decision.”

Ferman’s predecessor, Bruce Castor, didn’t think the evidence was sufficient to charge Cosby with a crime in 2005. Since then, dozens of women have accused the “I Spy” actor of drugging and molesting them, echoing the accusations Constand first made public with her January 2005 complaint to police and her later civil lawsuit.

In the civil suit, Constand said she had met Cosby through her job with the women’s basketball program at Temple, where Cosby served on the board of trustees. She said he befriended and mentored her. But, in a January 2004 visit to his Cheltenham home, she said, he gave her three pills for stress and she later woke up with her clothes askew.

Cosby, in a sworn deposition released this year, acknowledged he had sexual contact with Constand that night but said it was consensual.

Constand’s lawyer said Constand would cooperate in the new investigation if asked. Prosecutors in Pennsylvania typically have 12 years to bring a felony sexual assault case before the court, which means the clock is ticking toward a potential January deadline.

“She’s a very strong lady,” lawyer Dolores Troiani said Tuesday. “She’ll do whatever they request of her.”

Troiani would not comment on whether Constand had been contacted by authorities this year. She and Constand can’t comment on the case as part of a confidentiality agreement that settled the case before trial.

The settlement came after Cosby, who is 78 years old and has been married for decades, gave a lengthy deposition in the case. Documents unsealed in June by the presiding judge, along with the deposition later released by a court reporting service, show Cosby admitted having a series of extramarital relationships with women, including some of those who now accuse him of sexual assault.

He also said he had obtained quaaludes in the 1970s to give to women with whom he hoped to have sex, “the same as a person would say, ‘Have a drink.'”

Cosby, who starred as Dr. Cliff Huxtable on “The Cosby Show” from 1984 to 1992, maintained that the sexual activities were consensual and that none of the women took quaaludes unknowingly.

Castor, the former district attorney, in announcing he would not bring charges against Cosby in 2005, said both parties could be portrayed in “a less than flattering light.”

Last week, he said Constand had lodged more serious sexual-assault allegations in the civil lawsuit than she had divulged to police. He recalled investigating the complaint as a misdemeanor case. Yet the lawsuit included allegations of digital penetration, a potential felony, he said.

“If the allegations in the civil complaint were contained with that detail in her statement to the police, we might have been able to make a case out of it,” said Castor, a county commissioner who’s running for another term as district attorney as Ferman gives up the post to run for judge.

Troiani accused Castor of defaming Constand with his latest remarks. In an open letter she issued in response to his comments, she said she believes he had “no intention of arresting Dr. Huxtable” in 2005 because he was running for governor.

“We demand that you retract your statement concerning Ms. Constand and issue the apology to her that is 10 years overdue,” Troiani wrote.

Cosby’s longtime civil lawyers, Patrick O’Connor and George Gowen, did not return messages left Tuesday seeking comment.

Fordham, Marquette Universities Rescind Honorary Degrees They Gave Bill Cosby
By Associated Press

Fordham and Marquette universities have rescinded from Bill Cosby honorary degrees amid allegations from women accusing the comedian of sexual assault.

The two Jesuit schools announced the actions Thursday.

In Milwaukee, Marquette's Board of Trustees approved a resolution rescinding an honorary degree presented to Cosby in 2013.

Fordham's Board of Trustees also voted to take back an honorary doctor of fine arts degree given to him in 2001.

Both schools say it is the first time they have rescinded an honorary degree.

Cosby admitted having extramarital relationships with several women, including some who now accuse him of sexual assault. He has never been charged with a crime.

Three More Women Come Forward to Accuse Bill Cosby
Shelli Weinstein
‎September‎ ‎30‎, ‎2015

Three more women have added their names to the list of Bill Cosby's accusers.

Lawyer Gloria Allred introduced the trio at a news conference Los Angeles on Wednesday, The New York Times reports. Though it is too late for the women to take legal action against the comedian due to the statute of limitations expiring, Allred said "these three courageous women want Mr. Cosby to be accountable for what they believe was his misconduct towards them."

The three new accusers include Lisa Christie, a former model who said she appeared in Jell-O commercials with Cosby and was an extra on The Cosby Show. She said she met Cosby at a hotel in Chicago where he had dinner and a drink ready for her.

Pamela Abeyta said that she met him in Las Vegas in 1979 and that she believed someone put something in her drink, and Sharon Van Ert said that she was a waitress at a jazz club in California where they met in 1976.

A spokesman for Cosby's legal team was "not making any comment" about the women's accusations. Cosby is scheduled to be questioned under oath on Friday, Oct. 9 in a case involving a different woman.

Model Sues Bill Cosby Over Alleged 2008 Sexual Assault
By Anthony McCartney
Published at 8:12 PM EDT on Oct 6, 2015

A model who has accused Bill Cosby of drugging her at the Playboy Mansion in 2008 sued the comedian on Tuesday for sexual assault.

Chloe Goins' lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles seeks punitive damages for a variety of problems she says she has endured since the incident, including mental anguish, loss of self-esteem and dignity.

"Bill Cosby touched an intimate part of Chloe Goins' body while she was seriously disabled and/or unconscious," the lawsuit states.

The lawsuit is the third filed against Cosby since last year, when allegations of his sexual abuse began receiving new scrutiny. Three of his accusers are suing the comedian for defamation in Springfield, Massachusetts, because of statements released on his behalf that branded them as liars.

Cosby is also being sued in Los Angeles by Judy Huth, who claims Cosby molested her at the Playboy Mansion around 1974 when she was 15. Huth and Cosby's lawyers are scheduled to be in a Santa Monica courtroom on Wednesday to argue a motion over Cosby's upcoming deposition in that case.

Many of the accusations against Cosby are barred from being prosecuted or filed as civil lawsuits because of statutes of limitations.

Cosby's attorney Marty Singer did not immediately return an email message seeking comment about Goins' lawsuit. He has previously denied the accusations and denied Cosby was in town on the date one of the model's lawyers has said the incident occurred.

Goins' lawsuit does not specify a date when the incident occurred, but states it is being filed under a provision that allows victims of underage sexual abuse to sue for several years after they turn 18. Goins turned 18 in May 2008, which would place the incident several months before August 2008, the date her attorney Spencer Kuvin initially said the incident occurred on.

The AP doesn't normally identify people who say they are victims of sexual abuse, but Goins has come forward publicly in the lawsuit and at a January news conference.

The lawsuit includes a list of 40 women who have accused Cosby, 78, of some form of sexual misconduct, including several who have accused the comedian of drugging and assaulting them. Some of the women are identified only by pseudonyms they have given during news conferences with attorney Gloria Allred.

Goins' lawsuit states she met Cosby at the Playboy Mansion, who gave her drink that made her sick and dizzy, the complaint states. Cosby then offered to take her to a room to lie down, where she blacked out, according to the lawsuit.

When she awoke, the lawsuit states Goins was naked, her breasts were wet and sticky and Cosby was lower down on the bed biting one of her toes. The comedian left the room when Goins awoke and confronted him about what he was doing, the lawsuit states.

"Ms. Goins at no time gave Bill Cosby consent to touch her body in any way, let alone in a sexual manner," the lawsuit states.

The Los Angeles District Attorney's office said last week that it is reviewing a police investigation into Goins' allegations for a possible criminal case against Mr. Cosby. There is no timetable for when a decision will be made. Goins met with police detectives in January.

Another College Rescinds Degree Awarded to Bill Cosby

A university in northeastern Pennsylvania has become the latest school to rescind an honorary degree it granted Bill Cosby.

A spokeswoman for Wilkes University said Thursday that it's never rescinded an honorary degree before.

The school says university trustees voted unanimously Oct. 2 to revoke the honorary doctorate of humane letters it granted Cosby in 2004.

It gave Cosby the degree in recognition of his achievements in education and entertainment and for his activism for social justice and civil rights.

But the university says it's become clear Cosby's conduct doesn't live up to those values, or to the school's.

Court documents unsealed in July show Cosby admitting in 2005 to carrying on extramarital relationships with several women, including some who accuse him of sexual assault. He's never been charged with a crime.

Lawyer: Cosby Deposition Lasted Hours, 2nd Will Be Sought
Published at 8:42 PM EDT on Oct 10, 2015

The lawyer for a woman who's accused Bill Cosby of sexually abusing her at the Playboy Mansion when she was 15 says she'll seek a second deposition of the comedian.

Lawyer Gloria Allred said Saturday that Cosby appeared for a deposition in Boston on Friday that lasted several hours. Allred represents Judy Huth, who claims Cosby forced her to perform a sex act on him in the 1970s.

Allred says Huth will be deposed on Thursday. She says a California judge will decide in December if the testimony will be made public.

Lawyers for the 78-year-old Cosby say Huth's lawsuit is frivolous and that Huth's former attorney attempted to extort Cosby.

Cosby also faces two other cases: a defamation lawsuit brought by three women who claim he abused them decades ago and a suit filed Tuesday by a model who alleges he drugged and sexually assaulted her.

As Temple University looks to further distance itself from its most famous alum, Bill Cosby, another notable nigger graduate of the Philadelphia college will take his place.

Temple University trustees voted Tuesday to have NBC News correspondent and Today host Tamron Hall fill a seat on the board vacated by Bill Cosby last year.

Board chairman Patrick O'Connor said last week that Hall, a 1992 Temple grad, had the support she needs for approval. the board approved her unanimously Tuesday afternoon.

O'Connor told the Philadelphia Inquirer that Hall is a "vibrant, loyal alum" who will add "a new dimension" to the 36-member board. Only a handful of women sit on the board.

Hall, 45, grew up in Texas and joined NBC in 2007. She currently hosts an hour of the Today show.

In a story in the school's magazine, she says Temple "gave me my confidence.”

Cosby resigned from the board in December following renewed allegations that he drugged and sexually assaulted women over many years. He's never been charged with a crime.

Cosby has never been charged with a crime.

Lehigh awarded the honorary degree to Cosby in 2004. It said in a statement that his admitted behavior was "inconsistent with the character and high standards'' expected of honorees.

Several other schools, including Fordham, Marquette, Baylor and Pennsylvania's Wilkes University have already pulled their Cosby degrees.

Pittsburgh-Area Woman Sues Bill Cosby for Defamation, Abuse
By Joe Mandak
Published at 11:11 AM EDT on Oct 15, 2015

A Pittsburgh-area woman who appeared on television with Bill Cosby as a teenager became the latest to sue him for defamation Wednesday, claiming he defamed her after she gave an interview detailing his alleged sexual abuse in the 1980s.

Renita Hill's lawsuit was filed Wednesday in Pittsburgh. Cosby's publicist and attorneys didn't immediately return messages Thursday.

The woman claims she was 16 when she met Cosby during a talent search in 1983 for an educational children's television show, "Picture Pages."

She says Cosby hired her and soon after began flying her to cities where he was performing. There, he'd give her alcohol she believes was laced with drugs and molest her in hotel rooms.

She also says statements Cosby issued questioning the honesty of his various accusers defamed her.

Cosby faces another defamation case related to sexual abuse allegations, filed by three women in Massachusetts who allege that statements released on Cosby's behalf labeled them liars.

Cosby has never been charged with a crime, and Cosby and his representatives have repeatedly denied the allegations.

Eddie Murphy Makes Fun of Bill Cosby During 1st Stand-Up Routine in 28 Years

Honoree Eddie Murphy poses on the red carpet during the 18th Annual Mark Twain Prize For Humor at The John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts on October 18, 2015 in Washington, DC.

While being honored with the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor at the Kennedy Center on Sunday evening, Eddie Murphy did his first stand-up set in 28 years and used his very first joke to poke fun at Bill Cosby, who was previously given the honor in 2009.

"Who else has one of these?" He asked the audience. "Oh! Bill has one of these. Did you all make him give it back?" he asked. "You know you f----d up when they want you to give your trophy back."

He began a hilarious impression of Cosby, "I would like to talk to some of the people who feel like I should give back some of my [expletive] trophies!"

"You may have heard recently that I allegedly put the pill in the people's stomach," he continued the impersonation. "If I ever see or meet this Hannibal Buress in person I am going to try and kill this man!"

Buress put the Cosby allegations back in the spotlight after discussing them during a stand-up in 2014. Since then, nearly 50 women have come out and accused Cosby of sexual assault.

Murphy has apparently changed his demeanor about Cosby since earlier this year. In February, he was asked to play the controversial comedian for a skit for "Saturday Night Live's" 40th anniversary special but refused to do so.

"It's horrible," Murphy told the Washington Post at the time. "There's nothing funny about it. If you get up there and you crack jokes about him, you're just hurting people. You're hurting him. You're hurting his accusers. I was like, 'Hey, I'm coming back to 'SNL' for the anniversary, I'm not turning my moment on the show into this other thing.'"

The Mark Twain humor award honors those who influence society in the tradition of Samuel Clemens--the writer and satirist known as Mark Twain. Past honorees include Jay Leno, Tina Fey, Whoopi Goldberg, Ellen DeGeneres and Will Ferrell.

Bill Cosby's Face Covered Up on D.C. Restaurant Mural

Someone defaced a famous D.C. mural of Bill Cosby, replacing the comedian’s face with that of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un -- but the defacement didn't last long.

The mural at Ben’s Chili Bowl's flagship location on U Street NW shows Cosby and President Barack Obama, two people permitted to eat there for free, the restaurant boasts, as well as other D.C. legends musician Chuck Brown and radio host Donnie Simpson. The news that Kim's face was placed over Cosby's was first reported by the news website Borderstan.

Street artist Smearleader took credit for the defacement on Instagram, writing, "Instead of looking at a sexual predator, people can celebrate in jubilation that the great leader is now on the their Wall."

"What I would like for people to take away from this particular event is that it is an embarrassment to residents of D.C. old and new that [Cosby's] face is still up on the wall mural," Smearleader told News4.

Shortly before 5 p.m. Monday, Kevin Irvine, who said he was friends with the mural artist went to the scene and removed the label of Kim's face, restoring the mural to display Cosby again, News4's Shomari Stone reported.

When asked what he would tell someone who'd say that Cosby doesn't belong on the mural, the man responded, "Oh, that's impossible. Anybody who would say that is just insane. Regardless of Bill's -- I'm not sure what he did -- but he's a very respected man."

Ben's had declined to take the mural down after dozens of women came forward with accusations Cosby drugged them and sexually assaulted them.

The comedian, who has never been charged with a crime, is a longtime supporter of the restaurant and appeared at the opening of its Arlington location in March 2014.

"You've seen Bill Cosby wherever we stood," owner Vida Ali told News4 last year. "He's been a big supporter of us for a long time. He's been a family friend, and that's still the case."

Asked what the biggest issue with Cosby is, Smearleader told News4, "'The Cosby Show' is debatable, but definitely the drugging and sexually taking advantage of women."

Smearleader is known for putting stickers of the North Korean leader on street signs. The street artist told News4 that he ate at Ben's about 10 years ago.

"Employees were nice and courteous, so this isn't a knock on them," Smearleader told News4. "They're just trying to do their job."

Bill Cosby Replacing Lawyer in Teen Sex Abuse Case

Bill Cosby is replacing his longtime lawyer in a sex abuse lawsuit filed by a woman claiming she was molested by the comedian in the 1970s when she was 15 years old.

Cosby's new attorney, Christopher Tayback, filed a form on Friday reflecting that he was replacing Cosby's longtime attorney, Martin Singer, in the case. Singer has been defending Cosby in a lawsuit filed by Judy Huth, a Riverside County woman who claims Cosby forced her to perform a sex act on him at the Playboy Mansion around 1974.

No reason for the change is stated in the court filing.

Singer says his firm is also being replaced on a defamation lawsuit filed by model Janice Dickinson against Cosby.

The development was first reported Tuesday by the Los Angeles Times.

Sources: Cosby Under Investigation In Alleged 2004 Sexual Assault

By Walt Hunter

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — As reported first and exclusively on CBS 3 Eyewitness News, sources now confirm to Investigative Reporter Walt Hunter that Bill Cosby is under criminal investigation in Montgomery County in an alleged 2004 sexual assault in Cheltenham Township.

District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman has consistently declined comment.

However, CBS 3 has confirmed the investigation was triggered last summer by the release of depositions in a civil case which had previously been sealed.

Depending on the outcome of the criminal investigation, sources say, at some point in the future Cosby could face criminal charges.

Meanwhile, in New York City, Donna Barrett, a track official, told reporters gathered at a press conference with her attorney, and a second woman who claims she was assaulted by Cosby, that she was assaulted by Cosby at Franklin Field during the 2004 Penn Relays at Franklin Field.

Barrett claims she was posing for a picture with teammates when Cosby grabbed her in a “vice-like grip”, pulling her toward him and rubbing against her.

Cosby has not been charged with any criminal wrongdoing in connection with any allegations made against him.

Contacted by CBS 3, his attorneys in Philadelphia and Los Angeles did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Woman Sues Former Montco DA Who Didn't Charge Bill Cosby With Sex Assault
By MaryClaire Dale and NBC10 Staff
Published at 6:50 PM EDT on Oct 26, 2015

A woman who settled a sex abuse lawsuit against Bill Cosby has sued the former prosecutor who declined to file charges, saying he has defamed her through recent attacks on her credibility.

Andrea Constand's defamation lawsuit cites a series of comments that Bruce L. Castor Jr. made to the media as he runs for another term as district attorney in Montgomery County, near Philadelphia.

The suit, filed Monday, accuses Castor of rendering her "collateral damage for his political ambitions."

Castor has said Constand gave a different story to police in January 2005 than the felony assault she described in her lawsuit that same year.

"If the allegations in the civil complaint were contained with that detail in her statement to the police, we might have been able to make a case out of it," he told The Associated Press last month, defending his decision not to prosecute.

Constand's lawyer, Dolores Troiani, demanded a public apology. With none forthcoming, she filed the defamation and invasion of privacy lawsuit.

"He said that the statements that she gave to the police were inconsistent with the one in the civil lawsuit and that the one in the civil lawsuit was enhanced for monetary gain," Troiani told the NBC10 Investigators. "That is just not true."

Troiani said the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office has been conducting a criminal investigation into Constand's sexual assault allegations against Cosby.

"The DA's office initiated the contact with our office," Troiani said. "They asked us if she'd be willing to cooperate."

The Legal Intelligencer first reported on the lawsuit, which seeks at least $150,000 in damages.

The filing comes eight days before the election. Both Castor, a Republican, and his opponent Kevin Steele, a Democrat, have tried to spin the Cosby case to their advantage in campaign ads.

Troiani has said Castor never intended to charge Cosby, given his own political ambitions.

"When he learned about the investigation he publicly asked the District Attorney not to prosecute because he believed it would affect the campaign," Troiani said.

Castor left office in 2008 and, after pondering a run for statewide office, is now a county commissioner.

In announcing he would not charge Cosby, Castor said that both parties could be portrayed in "a less than flattering light."

He later released a statement on the lawsuit and allegations Monday evening:

In 7 days the people of Montgomery County will select their next District Attorney. While Bruce Castor reminds voters about his impressive record as District Attorney and his vision for the future of that office, Kevin Steele and his campaign continue to sling mud.

Instead of talking about the things that would improve the DA's office, make our community safer and your life more secure, Steele and his campaign are desperate to talk about an eleven year old case involving Bill Cosby.

The lawsuit filed today, seven days before an election, is the cheapest of Steele's cheap campaign stunts. It is the act of a desperate candidate who is down in the polls and headed to defeat. It is totally without merit. Bruce Castor remains committed to a positive, issues-based campaign and that is exactly where our focus will be for the next week.

It is fortunate we are seeing exactly the kind of District Attorney Kevin Steele would be before anyone makes the terrible mistake of actually voting for him.

Troiani dismissed claims that the lawsuit was a political move.

"He didn't make those statements about Andrea until September 24," Troiani said. "We gave him an opportunity then to retract that statement."

Dozens of women have since come forward to accuse Cosby of drugging and molesting them. And Cosby's deposition in the Constand case, released to the public this year, shows that Cosby acknowledged having sexual contact with Constand that night. He also said that, years earlier, he had gotten quaaludes from his doctor to give to young women before sex.

However, he said that his sexual relations with various women were consensual and that he never gave any women drugs without their knowledge.

The current Montgomery County prosecutor, Risa Vetri Ferman, appears to have revived the criminal investigation in Constand's case. Cosby's agents have contacted defense lawyers to handle a pending Montgomery County criminal probe. The 12-year statute to file charges expires in January, the month she leaves office as she runs for judge.

Ferman has declined to confirm that an investigation is underway, but, in response to the question, she recently noted the "tremendous courage" it takes for sexual assault victims to come forward.

Steele is Ferman's top deputy. He appears to be locked in a close race with Castor for the $172,000-a-year post.

Constand, then 31, left her job with the Temple University women's basketball team months after the January 2004 encounter at Cosby's home. She is now a massage therapist in Canada, in her native Ontario.

Muhlenberg College has become the latest school to rescind an honorary degree awarded to Bill Cosby following renewed accusations of sexual assault against the comedian.

Faculty, staff and students at the private liberal arts college in eastern Pennsylvania were told in an email Tuesday that the board of trustees had voted Friday to revoke the degree conferred on Cosby in 1995.

Board chairman Richard Crist says "substantial and credible information" that was unavailable at the time indicates that Cosby's conduct "substantially and materially offends the college's principles and ideals."

Cosby has never been charged with a crime  and has continued to deny allegations from several women that he drugged and sexually assaulted them years ago.

School Won't Rescind Cosby's Honorary Degree
By Tom Sherwood and Maddi Pariser

George Washington University administrators said they will not take back the honorary degree the school awarded to Bill Cosby in 1997, despite the student government's unanimous vote Tuesday in favor of revoking the diploma.

"While we are shocked and disturbed by the allegations against Mr. Cosby, it has never been the university’s practice to rescind an honorary degree," university officials said in a statement to News4.

Students are calling for the university to withdraw Cosby’s honorary degree as a result of a slew of sexual assault allegations against the comedian and television star.

"Just today, a woman sued (Cosby) for defamation. There have been several cases like this," said student government member Nick Watkins.

Student leaders told News4 the university has struggled to improve its response to sexual violence, and said Cosby represents the worst of the problem.

"An honorary degree should be reserved for someone who represents the values of our university," explained Erika Feinman, another member of the student government.

Former university president Stephen Joel Trachtenberg, who awarded Cosby the honor in 1997, said he agrees with the university’s decision.

"He’s a monster. But now that’s history. It’s pointless to retract it. Instead, do something positive," said Trachtenberg.

Trachtenberg went on to suggest even stronger emphasis on combating sexual abuse.

The student government leaders told News4 they will continue to push for action by the university.

Several schools around the country have revoked honorary degrees awarded to Cosby, including Tufts University in Massachusetts, Lehigh University in Pennsylvania, Fordham University in New York and Marquette University in Wisconsin.

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Drexel University has announced they are revoking an honorary degree given to Bill Cosby.

A letter to the Drexel University community reads:

‘The misconduct by Bill Cosby that came to light through his sworn deposition testimony stands in clear opposition to Drexel’s values. As a result, the University has revoked the honorary Drexel degree bestowed upon Mr. Cosby in 1992. I have made this decision in consultation with the Executive Committee of Drexel’s Board of Trustees.

Universities are critical arenas in the movement to recognize and address sexual violence and misconduct as a societal problem. Drexel takes that responsibility very seriously, and the decision to revoke Mr. Cosby’s honorary degree flows from that responsibility.’

The letter was written by Drexel University President John A. Fry.

Several other universities have revoked their honorary degrees to Cosby as well.

University of Pittsburgh Rescinds Cosby's Degree
Published 6 hours ago

The University of Pittsburgh is the latest U.S. school to rescind an honorary degree issued to Bill Cosby.

Spokesman Ken Service says the university's Committee for Honorary Degree Recipients voted unanimously Friday to take back the degree issued when Cosby spoke at the 2002 commencement of the school's satellite campus in Johnstown.

Service says "certain actions on Mr. Cosby's part - unknown to the public at the time and subsequently admitted by him - were in conflict with the stated basis of awarding the degree" and "inconsistent'' with Pitt's "core values and principles."

Cosby has never been criminally charged and denied allegations he had sex with women incapacitated by drugs he allegedly provided. In a deposition released earlier this year, however, Cosby acknowledged using Quaaludes during consensual sexual encounters.

New Jersey University Rescinds Bill Cosby's Honorary Degree
Published 5 hours ago

Drew University in New Jersey has rescinded an honorary degree given to Bill Cosby.

The university said in a statement Monday that its board rescinded the degree because of Cosby's admissions in sworn testimony that he engaged in conduct toward women that violates the school's values and standards.

Cosby has never been criminally charged and denied allegations he had sex with women incapacitated by drugs he allegedly provided. In out-of-court testimony released earlier this year, however, Cosby acknowledged using quaaludes during consensual sexual encounters.

Drew gave Cosby the degree in 2002. The board voted to rescind it on Oct. 23, but didn't release that information until Monday after a reporter from NJ.com asked.

Several other schools across the country also have rescinded honorary degrees given to Cosby.
