CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - The Chesterfield man accused of leaving a dog to die in a vacant house is expected in court Thursday.

19-year old Darnell Drew is charged with felony animal cruelty.

Police say Drew left a dog in a crate without a way to get to food and water. Police believe the dog died of starvation.

People who live on Appleford Court say they heard barking at the house, but didn't see anyone stop by to check on the dog.
