UAMS STUDENT JUMPS TO HIS DEATH; WIFE KILLED

A University of Arkansas medical student jumped to his death Saturday morning after police believe he killed his wife, who was the medical school's chief resident in neurosurgery.

Leslie Taylor, a spokeswoman for the University of Arkansas for Medical Sc
ences, said campus police received a call about 1:10 a.m. from someone concerned about the third year medical student.

Police arrived at a 10th floor dormitory room and tried to talk to Robert Ho
ward
. But according to Taylor and campus police, around 1:30 a.m. Howard jumped out of a window he broke. He was killed.

About 10:00 a.m., UAMS
police went to a private residence as part of the investigation into the student's death and found Howard's wife, Robin Mitchell, dead of stab wounds to her upper body.

Campus police would not say what kind of wounds or provide other details. According to Little Rock police, there was evidence that the student killed his wife.

Police have provided no further details. Taylor said the UAMS family was grief stricken with news of the two deaths.
