Man?? Charged With Decapitating His Sister's Dog

A negro faces a judge this morning accused of decapitating a dog. Ezekiel Holley is charged with cruelty to animals, disorderly conduct, and obstructing official business.

According to court documents, he stabbed his sister's dog and then cut off the dog's head. He was arrested last night.

Police say Holley told them he attacked the dog because he was upset that his sister's boyfriend beat her up.

More details emerge about dog's killing

Ezekiel B. Holley remained in jail today after being charged with killing his sister’s dog Sunday at their Farragut Road home.
“This was pretty gruesome," Police Chief Thomas Doyle said.

“No reason really could be given for that type of heinous act no matter what the underlying circumstances are," said Harold Dates, executive CEO of SPCA Cincinnati.

Holley, 28, is charged with animal cruelty, disorderly conduct and obstructing official business i
n the incident. He is being held on $3,000 bond pending a July 15 court appearance.

According to the complaint filed by Greenhills police Officer Shane Miller, Holley “did knowingly stab his sister’s dog, then he cut off the dog’s head."

“Apparently, the gentleman was enraged over the fact that his sister was assaulted by her boyfriend and the dog was owned by the boyfriend," Doyle said. “He thought the way to get back at the boyfriend for beating his sister was to kill the dog. I don’t see the logic."

Earlier Sunday, the boyfriend had been arrested and charged with domestic violence, the police chief said. She was treated at a hospital for minor injuries, he said.

Holley, who was not involved in the domestic violence incident, his sister and her boyfriend all live at the Farragut Road residence, Doyle said.

Doyle said the dog that was killed was a small dog that resembled a dachshund.
Doyle said the Sunday incident is not the first animal abuse incident
in the village in recent years. Two years ago, a cat was placed in a freezer, and about a year ago a dog was strangled, he said.

“But nothing this violent," Doyle said, referring to the Sunday incident.

Andy Mahlman, SPCA operations director, said incidents of extreme animal cruelty occur periodically in Greater Cincinnati. He noted that people involved in violence against others often have a history of violence or neglect involving animals.

Recent incidents of animal abuse have led the Butler County prosecutor’s office to place animal abuse and domestic abuse cases under one investigative unit.
Studies have shown that up to 88 percent of homes with child abuse also had incidents of animal abuse.
