Fear still a factor for whites in Pollokshields

Glasgow Correspondent reports.

Earlier this month Glasgow Organiser Walter Hamilton meet with a teenage friend of tragic school boy murder victim Kriss Donald.

Kriss was brutally murdered two years ago in what is widely regarded as one of the most horrific and brutal murders ever to have taken place in the UK. The subsequent trial of two members of the Asian gang responsible resulted in the first ever race murder conviction in Scotland. Daanish Zahid was sentenced to a minimum 17 years for his part in the killing.

Zahid Mohammed who testified in court that Kriss had been targeted for being a white boy and that
the gang intended to kidnap white youths and chop them up, take their eyes out and stab them,
was sentenced to serve five years for racially-motivated assault and abduction.

Three other men are due to stand trial later this year for Kriss' murder after having been extradited from Pakistan.

Childhood friend

Kriss' friend who we will refer to as 'Chic' to protect his identity is fearful of suffering reprisals for speaking out against the racial nature of the gang violence in Pollokshields where Kriss lived. Indeed the interview itself was conducted outside the area as Chic said the Asian gangs have spotters everywhere in the area.

Chic told Walter that the Asian gangs control the drug trade in Pollokshields and that much of the violence they dish out is drug related, but the daily threats and beatings are not just confined to the drug users or rival dealers. White people and particularly school kids are the targets for intimidation by the Asian gang
s according to Chic in their efforts to recruit more users or to simply make sure they know who runs Pollokshields.ÃÆ’ÃƒÆ’”Å¡¢
â┚¬ÔÅ¡ÃԠ’Ô ’â┚¬ÔÅ¡ Chic says there have been incidents of older Asians attacking school pupils with meat cleavers and other weapons.

There are many no-go areas for white people in the area and after dark the situation is even worse. Chic said that the Police seem to employ a biased approach to policing the area. He told how he and his friends were constantly being stopped and searched by the Police while Asian gangs seemed to be able to roam with impunity dealing drugs and carrying weapons ' which they menacingly flash at the local white kids while taunting them that they will get Kryptoed. Krypto was young Kriss' nickname! Urdu insults about the 'Gori' (whites) are also commonplace.

Colour biased policing

Chic said he and his friends now see their future outside the area they were brought up in because it no longer feels like a Scottish community. They feel the
council and the police bend over backwards for the Asian community while ignoring the rise in criminality from the sa
me community. Worse still is the scapegoating of the local white youth at a time when they already feel victimised by Asian gangsters. Chic said We are being made second class and our only crime is being white!

Strathclyde Police have twice shut down operations to tackle the Asian gang problem on the Southside because of fears they would be deemed to be racist. Operation Barber was closed in 1998 despite naming over 220 Asians described as posing a threat to the public, including some implicated in Kriss' death. In 2003, just a few months before Kriss was killed, Strathclyde Police binned Operation Gadher because it they did not want to be seen to be solely investigating Asian gangs.

Chic also raised the issue about media coverage afforded to ethnic race murder victims like the tragic case of Anthony Walker compared to that given to whites like Kriss. Ant
hony got UK coverage for weeks but my friend got virtually nothing on the UK news. The Scottish coverage was only sli
ghtly better but tried to cover up the racist nature of it. The Scottish media always want to put a positive spin on coverage of Pollokshields but it is complete fabrication as far as the white youth in Pollokshields are concerned says Chic. The place is a nightmare for us

Successful Meeting

Twenty plus members of Glasgow BNP held a meeting on the 16th of February in the Southside of the city where the situation for indigenous Scots has only become worse since Kriss' murder.

Despite the degenerating situation for most Glaswegians the meeting was a hugely positive one for Glasgow BNP. Conducted using a more inclusive layout every person in attendance was given the opportunity to introduce themselves and have their say on the direction of the branch. The result was a promise of greater effort from all and the next few activities and community projec
ts were confirmed. The new format also unearthed several new potential speakers for future meetings.

Other points of note
were the confirmation of Sandra Gibson as the new branch secretary and the prospective launch of a local newsletter. Paper sales and leafleting sessions are also to be stepped up in an effort to maximise our potential for the Holyrood elections next year. The collection raised ÔÅ¡£294.00.

The next monthly branch meeting in Glasgow is scheduled for Thursday, March the 16th. Anybody wishing to attend should call Glasgow BNP on 07742 044555 or e-mail the new Glasgow address of glasgow@bnp.org.uk for details.
