Two food vendors were embroiled in a dispute over location near the High Line in Manhattan Tuesday when one of the men slashed the other — then pretended to be a witness to the crime, police said.
Mohammed Awad, 39, allegedly cut Elissa Naser, 37, in the back with a razor blade at about 3 p.m. at 10th Avenue and W. 30th St. in Chelsea, cops said.
“The victim was at the corner of 10th Avenue and 30th Street,” a police source said. “He and the suspect were arguing over who has the right to park his cart there.”
Awad pulled out a blade and slashed Naser in the back, then took off running up 10th Avenue, cops said.
Naser collapsed at the rear of a gyro food cart. Emergency Medical Services took him to Bellevue Hospital, where he received five stitches.
Awad returned to the scene a short time after the slashing and pretended to be a witness , police said. But detectives who took him to the precinct station house realized during questioning that he was the slasher.
Awad was arrested and charged with assault and possession of a weapon, cops said.
