A teenager was arrested last week for allegedly fatally shooting a 41-year-old man in April while the man was walking his dog in San Jose, officials said in a Monday news release.
Matthew Antracoli, 18, from San Mateo was arrested in Morgan Hill on May 9 after officers obtained a warrant for his arrest, the San Jose Police Department said.
The shooting occurred just before 2 p.m. April 19 on the 1000 block of Blossom River Drive, where officers found the man with a gunshot wound, SJPD said.
The department is still investigating the suspect’s motive, but a spokesperson for SJPD told SFGATE it appeared he may have been attempting to steal the man’s dog.
Officers and medics attempted life-saving measures, but the 41-year-old, identified by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner's Office as Jorge Torres Maestre, was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.
Antracoli was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail without bail, according to jail records.
This is the city’s ninth homicide this year, SJPD said.
Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact the department’s homicide unit by emailing 4117@sanjoseca.gov or 4245@sanjoseca.gov or by calling 408-277-5283.
