KNOXVILLE (WATE) -- On Monday, 6 News followed up on Gregory Allen Duff, a man arrested on Sunday after a police pursuit.

There are two full pages of different charges filed against Duff, 21, in Knox County alone.

And in next door Anderson County, Duff racked up his most serious charge to date, attempted first degree murder. He's accused of shooting another man nine times in 2006.

There are about two dozen charges filed against Duff, 13 of which were added just this past May.

In one case, Duff is accused of shooting at a man. In another, he's charged with kidnapping and assaulting a teenager
who's pregnant with his baby
.

So the question is, why is Duff out on the streets more than he's behind bars?

Experts say under the law, a defendant is always entitled to a bond. The only exception to that is if it's a capital case.

Of course, Duff isn't facing the death penalty in any cases and so far, he only has convictions in two minor cases. Everything else is either pending or dismissed.

When Duff was arrested on Sunday in Fort Sanders after a police pursuit, he was wanted on outstanding warrants for failing to appear in court.

Taking that into consideration as well as Duff possibly being a flight risk, John Gill, with the Knox County District Attorney's Office says, "Because of the number of charges in Knox County and Anderson County, his bond has been set at well over a half a million dollars and it would be highly unlikely he would be able to make that bond."

The Knox County DA's Office says they'll notify Anderson County of the recent charges
so officials can act accordingly.

A bond hearing has been set in Anderson County for August 21. Duff's trial in Anderson County court is still seven months away.
