MILFORD — A Bridgeport man who police say robbed a patron of an after-hours club in Shelton last October will spend two years in prison after taking a plea deal in the case.

Marquise King, 30, pleaded guilty under the Alford doctrine to a single count of second-degree larceny before Judge Kevin Russo at state Superior Court Tuesday.
Under Alford, defendants do not agree with the allegations against them, but plead guilty and are convicted to avoid a possible greater sentence at trial.

King had faced charges of first-degree robbery and criminal possession of a firearm prior to taking the plea bargain, which calls for the judge to hand down a 10-year prison sentence to be suspended after King serves two years, followed by five years of probation.

A man told police that he left an after-hours bar in downtown Shelton when he was approached by the two people, who reportedly each pointed a gun at him and demanded his belongings, according to Shelton Police Lt. Robert Kozlowsky. The man reported that the suspects took jewelry, a phone, credit cards and other items.
