Gambler lucks out in court

BRAMPTON WOMAN WHO STOLE ALMOST $1M FROM EMPLOYER AVOIDS TERM IN PEN

By CHRIS DOUCETTE, TORONTO SUN

A BRAMPTON woman, who stole almost $1 million from her employer to support her gambling addiction, hasn't had much luck at the casino. But luck was certainly with Zarmoon Inshanalli in a Newmarket court yesterday.

The 49-year-old was facing prison time for pocketing huge sums of cash from the 407 ETR, where she worked as the company's manager of ge
eral accounting from Jan. 1, 2001 to Dec. 13, 2002.

BLEW CASH AT CASINO

Inshanalli blew most of the stolen money at Casino Niagara. She pleaded guilty to fraud charges on Monday and yesterda
y r
ceived a conditional sentence of two years less a day, meaning she'll sp
end the next couple of years under house arrest. "On top of that, she got two years probation and she was ordered to make restitution in the amount of $981,874," said Brendan Crawley, a spokesman for the attorney general.

About $110,000 is in the process of being recovered from Inshanalli's bank and brokerage accounts.

Crown attorney Paul Tait, who had sought a penitentiary term of three to five years, is considering an appeal of Justice Harry Keenan's decision, Crawley said.
