Police: Chaplain Tried To Smuggle Razor Blades Into City Jail

A jails chaplain has been arrested and charged with bringing contraband into a Manhattan corrections facility.

Investigators say Imam Zul-Qarnin Shahid, 58, of Staten Island was taken into custody this morning after he tried to bring three straight razors and a pair of scissors into the Manhattan Detention Complex.

Police say the items were discovered inside a bag as it was going through an X-ray machine.

Shahid is facing several charges, including four counts of promoting prison contraband in the first degree.

Investigators say the Muslim cleric has been employed as a chaplain with the Department of Corrections since 2007.

If convicted, he faces up to seven years in prison.

What a totally MISLEADING headline. There is a heck of a lot of difference between straight razors, and razor blades.

I'm amazed the information was released to the press at all.
