Search for Burglar Forces Mall Closure

A Shreveport mall delayed its opening this morning as police searched one of the mall's major department stores for a burglar. Shreveport Police say one man, and possible a second person, is believed to have remained in the Sears Department Store after closing time Wednesday. Several silent alarms were triggered during the night. Around 6am Thursday, Shreveport Polic
sent three officers and their police dogs into the store but did not find anyone. At 11am Thursday, police say they found Anthony Barrett, age 40 of Shreveport, inside the store. Barrett was arrested an

d charged with one count of burglary.

Shortly after Barrett was arrested, police said an
other alarm went off inside the Sears store. They searched the store again but did not find anyone. The Sears store reopened at 1pm. "It's a very big building and we've been searching for several hours now," said police spokeswoman Kacee Hargrave. "The question is how long do we want to keep Sears closed to find a burglary suspect," Hargrave added. Hargrave says jewelry was taken from the Sears jewelry counter but officers found the jewels in a bag elsewhere in the store. The other stores in the mall opened at 11am.
