Police Arrest Teacher Charged With Looking At Porn In Class

HOUSTON -- A charter school teacher accused of looking at gay porn in class was placed behind bars Thursday after a school superintendent watching Local 2 recognized the man.
Students as young as 11 years old at Raul Yzaguirre School For Success said they saw gay pornography on 46-year-old Roger Ward's computer.
Officials at the charter school suspended Ward with pay pending the outcome of the investigation.
But the superintendent for a different north Houston charter sch
ool, who saw Local 2's report Wednesday night, called police after he recognized Ward.

Roberts said Ward had been teaching sixth-graders at the school for more than a month.
"I was like, 'Oh my God, I couldn't believe it!' I was appalled to know that this person was working here in our school and we had no knowledge of his past," Roberts said.

Administrators said Ward did not tell them about his work at Raul Yzaguirre and their background check on Ward did not show any convictions or court proceedings because no charges had been filed at the time he was hired.
Northwest Preparatory Academy placed Ward on unpaid leave, pending the outcome of the investigation.
The Harris County district attorney charged Ward with display of harmful material to
a minor Wednesday. He faces up to two years behind bars if convicted.
Houston police said they confiscated the computer Ward used to look at pornography at the Raul Yzaguirre School. Investigators sai
d although other people might have had access to the computer during the day, investigators said they can prove it was Ward who downloaded the images and streaming video by the time of day those images were viewed.
Local 2 reported that Ward was also fired from a Houston Independent School District school for sexual comments he allegedly made in front of students and staff; however, no criminal charges were ever filed.
