Police have filed criminal charges against the father of a two-year-old boy who fell out of a second story window over the weekend.

Police tell 9News Dewon Thomas waited close to 45 minutes before seeking medical attention for his son, Deondre Thomas.

The incident happened at the boy's home on Carthage Avenue in Arlington Heights Sunday morning.

Monday night, Deondre was in

good condition, up from serious condition on Sunday.

And now, his father is facing a felony charge of child endangerment, but
first, police have to find him.

Arlington Heights police have a lot of questions for Dewon Thomas. At the top of the list is why did he wait 45 minutes before getting his son help.

Police tell us Deondre was playing in the bed alone, which is up against the window, when he fell 14 feet, seven inches down to the concrete sidewalk.

"What we were told is that the child was conscious and was playing, and they were trying to get him to play and every time he would move he would cry, and he wanted to go to sleep. When they couldn't wake him up that's when they called 911," said Sergeant Ken Harper of Arlington Heights police.

Police say the 911 call came not from the father but from the boy's grandmother who wasn't at the home during the time of the fall.

Here's a brief transcription of that call:
<
br>D
ispatcher: What we want you to do is not move him and tell him to move unless he's in any immediate danger.

Grandmother: His dad moved him to put some clothes on him

Dispatcher: If you move him, you can injure him further so don't move him anymore.

Dispatcher: Is he bleeding anywhere?

Grandmother: No, he just keeps trying to go to sleep.

Dispatcher: Okay, he may have a head injury then.

Grandmother: Okay.

When investigators arrived at Children's Hospital to interview Thomas, they say he had already left. Now, neighbors of the boy are hoping to see him soon.

"When you have little ones you can't pull for anything else but that. We just pray he gets better soon," neighbor Kim Moore told 9News.

Job and Family Services is also investigating this incident.

The boy's mother was at work during the accident.
