Shooting leaves Montgomery man dead
Brian Griffin, 24, was working on his girlfriend's car outside 5244 Rolind Drive in the Southlawn Estates community shortly after 1 p.m. when he was shot. He died about an hour later at Baptist Medical Center South, of a gunshot wound to the chest.
Griffin's grandmother, Eula Mae Jones, was outside her home with several family members as they comforted each other Friday afternoon. Jones declined comment on her grandson's death.
Lt. Huey Thornton, Montgomery police spokesman, said the shooter, a black man with short twists in his hair, fled the scene in a white "round-style" Mercury Marquis. He was still at large at press time.

Anthony Haigler, Griffin's uncle, said Griffin was standing next to his girlfriend'
s car, parked across the street from his grandmother's house, when the shooter pulled up in the white Marquis. They talked for a few moments and, when Griffin and his father started to walk toward Jones' house, the shooter backed up the car a few feet and opened fire. Griffin stumbled across the street and fell next to his own car.
Carolyn Haigler, another of Griffin's cousins, described him as a "cool guy."
"He liked joking around and stuff," she said.
