Youth Worker Accused Of Sodomizing Boy
Mclaurin Fired From Gillis Center

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A former youth counselor hired to help troubled boys is accusing of sexually assaulting a minor, KMBC's Robb Yagmin reported Tuesday.
Tommy Mclaurin, 26, was charged with statutory sodomy after several alleged encounters with a 12-year-old male student. He's being held on $75,000 bond.
Yagmin reported that Mclaurin was a supervisor of boys between the ages of 5 and 17 at Gillis Center in south Kansas City, which is an education facility for at-risk children.
Court records show that a boy told police he saw Mclaurin on his knees in front of a classmate. When the v
ictim was questioned, he told officers that Mclaurin had allegedly done this several times at Gillis Ce
nter, according to court documents.

School President Mary Ellen Schaid said the school does extensive background checks on employees and is committed to keeping the students safe. She said Mclaurin was suspended when the incident was first reported, then was fired after an investigation.
Yagmin reported that Mclaurin has a clean criminal record. Court records show that he admitted to police he had a sexual encounter with a boy. Mclaurin also told officers he didn't remember the date of the incident because he was allegedly high on marijuana and cocaine.
Prosecutors said more charges could be filed.
