Officer injured in car chase with teen

An officer was injured in a high-speed chase attempting to stop an alleged carjacker.

A Stratford 17-year-old was arrested on charges of carjacking, assault on the elderly, third-degree larceny, second-degree robbery, interference, and assault on a police officer. Bond was $250,000.

The teen's name was withheld because of his youthful offender status.

Officers responded to the Goodwill parking lot on Boston Avenue where an 87-year-old man reportedly said he was pulled out of his red Geo and thrown on the ground by the suspect.

A female reportedly had first approached the victim in the parking lot and asked for $2. He replied t
hat he had no singles and entered his vehicle. At that time, the sus
pect allegedly pulled the victim out of the car, picked up the female and drove away.

A patrolling officer spotted the car and began pursuit. The officer was able to box in the Geo, however, the suspect allegedly attempted a turn at high speed, hitting the rear door of the police car on the corner of Boston and Seaview avenues.

The officer reportedly complained of severe pain in his back and chest and was transported to the hospital.

The victim reported shoulder and arm pain from striking the ground. Because the female suspect also was a juvenile, her name was not released.

A 911 CALL requesting assistance in connection with a domestic dispute drew officers Jan. 12.

Joy G. Daniel, 44, of Windsor Street, and Shamara A. Forbes, 20, of Coleman Street, were arrested after allegedly assaulting a woman at Daniel's apartment.

Daniel was charged with third-degree assault, second-degree bre
ach of peace and disorderly conduct. Bond was $2,500. Forbes was charged with second-deg
ree assault and breach of peace. Bond was $5,000.

Officers arrived on the scene and found Daniel and Forbes outside the building. Both reportedly had scratches and red marks on their faces.

While officers were talking with Daniel and Forbes, the victim reportedly walked up to the scene, also with red marks and a swollen, bleeding lip. Her face and T-shirt reportedly were stained orange, which an officer determined was caused by Mace, based on the odor.

The victim reportedly used to live at Daniel's residence and returned to retrieve some personal items. Daniel reportedly arrived and called 911, screaming that she was being assaulted. Meanwhile, she allegedly punched the victim in the mouth.

The victim then reportedly left and went to her car, where Forbes and Daniel approached her. Daniel then allegedly sprayed Mace at the victim.

Attempting to exit the vehicle, the victim
reportedly began flailing her arms out the window. After she got out, she began swinging with her eyes closed due t
o the Mace.

She then broke free and ran down McKinley Avenue for help. When Daniel and Forbes were taken into custody, police reportedly searched them and found a can of Mace on Daniel.

OFFICERS RESPONDED to a report of a suspicious person with a gun on Jan. 19.

Bashawn Williams, 23, of Stratford Avenue, was arrested for interfering with an officer after fleeing from police. Bond was $5,000.

Police received a report of a man on the corner of Connecticut Avenue and Sixth Street wearing a hood and carrying a gun.

The officers observed a person matching the description, later identified as Williams, and ordered him to stop and place his hands on a fence at the corner of the street.

Williams then allegedly ran, and the officers pursued on foot. He reportedly was apprehended in a backyard on Connecticut Avenue, just in from Bunnell Street.<b
