GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. -- A Gwinnett County man faces animal abuse and child cruelty charges after deputies said the man severely beat a family pet in front of his two children.
Dainley Dewayne Green is being held in the Gwinnett County Jail. Deputies said the investigation began after receiving a call from Green’s wife.
On the surface, the 2-year-old dachshund named Rocky does not appear to have any scars of signs of injuries, but Gwinnett County sheriff’s deputies said most of his problems are internal.
“The dog has a fractured skull, a disfigured eye. It was strangled, it had bloodshot eyes from being strangled,â┚¬ said Stacey Bourbonnais of the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Department.
Deputies said the attack happened at a home in Lawrenceville. Officials believe the dog was abused by Green. Police said Green’s behavior was so violent that his wife made a report to the sheriff’s department.
“The wife came here to take out a temporary protective order against her husband and in that T.P.O. she told deputies about the abuse to the 2-year-old dachshund in the house,â┚¬ said Bourbonnais.
Deputies added charges when they found out the beating happened in front of Green’s two children.
Police rushed the dog to an emergency veterinarian. Police said when they found the dog he was bleeding and shaking under a blanket.
“It’s extremely heinous what he did to the small, little animal and you saw the dog â┚¬“ and how small and innocent the little dog is â┚¬“ so if he’s going to do that to a dog, you know, of course you’re worried about what he could do to a human,â┚¬ said Bourbonnais.
Green will face a judge later this week in connection with the temporary restraining order and the child cruelty and animal cruelty charges.
