A disabled woman was hospitalized Friday night after police said she was kidnapped and brutally raped for 19 hours.
The attack happened in a North Minneapolis house and the case is an extreme example of what rape counselors call an [color=#FF
0000]epidemic of domestic violence[/color].

The incident apparently started at a bus stop where a woman with multiple sclerosis, using a walker, was kidnapped by an ex-boyfriend she had not seen in two years.
"Once a relationship is broken up, that's actually the most da
ngerous time for the victim," said Jennie Yngsdale, with the Rape and Sex Abuse Center.
Johnny Evans, 36, is accused of barricading the woman inside a house, beating and raping her for 19 hours.
"This one is as bad as it gets," said prosecutor Amy Klobuchar. "You've got a case here where she's <!
--sizeo:2-->threatened with an ax and various weapons </span> over a prolonged period of time and held hostage. This guy knew that she had a disability and still did this."
At one point, the woman tried to alert a couple who came to the door. Evans allegedly put his foot on her neck and said, "You say anything, you're dying."
The woman finally pleaded with Evans to let her go to a hospital. He made her take a bus to North Memorial Medical Center, police said.
Evans has a history of violence, having served prison time for domestic assault and burglary.

was beating her because
another woman broke up with him.
Rape counselors are calling domestic rape an epidemic because studies show nearly 80 percent of rapists know their victims. Most rapes go unreported because the victims are too ashamed or mistakenly blame themselves. [/b]
