OAKLAND PARK, Fla. -- The Broward Sheriff's Office is investigating an attack on a teenager and her 8-week-old puppy.

Deputies responded to the 400 block of NW 43rd Court in Oakland Park Tuesday after a 15-year-old girl was attacked by a neighbor and her daughter.

The teenage victim, Jobenia Kirksey, 15, told Local 10's Roger Lohse that she and her sister were walking their dog when Naomie Jeanite, 46, and her daughter, Veronica Valeur, 17, drove by and flipped them off.

Kirksey says they continued walking but when they arrived at their apartment complex, Jeanite and Kirksey attacked them.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they say they saw Jeanite swinging a baseball bat at a group of four teenagers. They say Jeanite hit Kirksey with the bat.

Deputies also said Valeur, stabbed Kirksey in the arms with a knife. Kirksey did not want to show her face on camera, but she did show the wounds on her arms.

According to the victim's sister, she and Kirksey had some kind of problem during the school year, but was completely surprised by the attack.

After the attack, she said they went after Polo.

"They took the leash, they picked up the dog and swung it in the middle of the road. And then the mom came and hit it with the bat," she said.

Kirksey was transported to Holy Cross Hospital where she was treated and released.

The puppy, a bulldog mix, was not seriously hurt.

Jeanite and Valeur were arrested but have since been released from the Broward County Jail.

Both were charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. Valeur was also charged with animal cruelty.
