LOS ANGELES (AP) Federal officers have arrested a fugitive charged in the 19-year-old torture and slaying of a U.S. drug agent in Mexico, authorities said.
Antonio Vasquez-Ochoa was captured Friday at the transmission shop in Los Angeles where he worked, the U.S. Marshals Service said.
The
suspected member of the Guadalajara Narcotics Cartel allegedly had been living and working in the United States illegally using several aliases.
Vasquez-Ochoa, 49, was indicted in 1990 for his suspec
ted
involvement in the 1985 death of DEA Special Agent Enrique Cama
rena-Salazar. The agent was abducted and brought to a house in Guadalajara, Mexico, where he was tortured and killed. He was found dead at a ranch outside Guadalajara, his body mutilated and beaten.
Vasquez-Ochoa was wanted on a 1992 federal warrant that charged him with conspiracy to kidnap a federal agent, kidnapping a federal agent, murder and other crimes.
Vasquez-Ochoa was being held without bail, and it was not known late Friday whether he had an attorney. He is scheduled to be arraigned Monday.
