Teenage killer's father had dungeon at home

A murderer's father had a fascination with sadomasochism and had a dungeon in his home, a court heard.

His son, Christopher Alexander Lukawski, 19, has pleaded guilty to the rape and murder of a 16-year-old girl.

"There is evidence that Lukawski was fascinated by macabre and pornographic Internet sites and influenced by his father," defence lawyer Sue Cox said.

The Supreme Court heard Lukawski had a history of behavioural problems and spent part of his early teens on the streets.

Doctors have diagnosed him with a range of mental illnesses from schizophrenia to multi
le personality disorder.

They have been unable to agree on the severity of his illness and whether he will grow out of it, or if it is treatable.

Lukawski, who appeared in court at Alice Spr
ings, was charged with two counts of sexual assault and murdering the
girl at Tennant Creek in May 2002.

He was 16 at the time.

Director of Public Prosecutions Rex Wild, QC, said police found the girl in a laundry block behind Rocky's Pizza after Lukawski directed them to her.

Water had been forced down her throat with a hose.

Mr Wild said the girl had serious head injuries from being hit with an ashtray or bottle and was asphyxiated.

He told the court Lukawski slashed the girl's breasts with a knife after she had died.

Ms Cox urged Justice Sally Thomas to take into account Lukawski's age at the time of the murder, his early plea and that he had no prior convictions.

She told the court he was also drunk during the attack after drinking half
a bottle of brandy.

Ms Cox said the murder was horrific but not the worst case.

But Mr Wild said: "It's a savage and brutal crime. It may not be the worst case, but it is in th
e worst case category."

Justice Sally Thomas will sentence Lukawski on June 30.
