Elderly teacher facing sex rap
STUDENT ALLEGES 60S ATTACK
By JONATHAN JENKINS, TORONTO SUN
ONE OF the founders of a tony Toronto private boys' school has been charged with indecent assault of a student while teaching at another private college more than 40 years ago. John Bradley, 83, was arrested yesterday and charged with assaulting a student at St. Andrew's College, in Aurora, sometime during the 1960-61 school year, cops said.
"He just said that he had it bottled up over all those ye
rs and wanted some closure to it," York police Det.-Const. Chris Coleman said of the complainant, now 57.
The former student told police he was boarding at the school and went to the accused
9;s
residence on campus for a music lesson when the assault happened.
MOVED
TO ROYAL ST. GEORGE'S
Coleman said police are asking for any other potential complainants to contact them.
Ted Staunton, headmaster at St. Andrew's, said news of the investigation and arrest came out of the blue. "I've been here since 1997 and Mr. Bradley hasn't been associated with St. Andrews for 40 years," Staunton said. "We were very co-operative needless to say, but there was nothing I could give (police) that was really of much assistance."
Bradley resigned his post at St. Andrew's in 1964 after he and other staffers formed Royal St. George's College in Toronto, where he taught music and served as assistant headmaster and on the board of governors.
"The college has no knowledge or record of any other complaints against Mr. Bradley," a statement from Royal St. George's said.
