A GANG of thugs subjected a man to a vicious racist attack - slamming a brick into his face - in a troubled part of Rotherham.
The 23-year-old black victim was first subjected to racist abuse while walking along Brinsworth Lane, police say.
But then one of the thugs hit him in the face with a brick, causing cuts, bruising and swelling. He was left badly shaken by the unprovoked attack.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the assault, which took place in an area where there has been racial tension in the past.
A police spokesman said: "A local man was accosted by a group of youths who first verbally abused him then hit him in the face with a brick.
"The gang had pul
ed up in a small white hatchback car on Brinsworth Lane.
"This was a terrifying attack for the victim which left him shocked and physically injured. His face was a bit of a mess afterwards but he is
recovering."
The offenders are all white males, aged
about 20 and wearing casual sportswear type clothing. One was about 5ft 8ins tall with dark hair, spoke with a local accent and was wearing a light coloured baseball cap, dark jeans and a dark top.

n A bogus council workman was thwarted by the occupant of a house on Shearman Avenue, Kimberworth, when the victim caught him trying to steal a TV.
The offender is described as Asian, about 28 and 5ft 10ins tall. He called at the house about 11.40am on Wednesday, saying he wanted to inspect the windows. He then asked to use the toilet but the occupant heard him moving in other upstairs rooms and caught him leaving the premises with the TV.
The resident g
rabbed it back from him and the offender ran off.
