A 19-year-old Dandenong man charged with raping five people, and attempting to murder one of them, in an eight-day spree appeared in court today for the first time.

Hakeem Hakeem appeared in the Melbourne Magistrates Court to face 29 charges, which included 10 counts of rape, five counts of unlawful imprisonment of the rape victims, and seven counts of common law assault.

He made no application for bail and was remanded in custody.

Hakeem, who is believed to have arrived in Australia from Sudan in recent weeks, appeared solemn throughout the short hearing.

The slightly built teenager, with short black hair and wearing a yellow t-shirt, spoke only occasionally to his interpreter.

The 10 counts of rape relate to different types of penetration
of the five victims.

Four counts related to a single incid
ent in which a man was allegedly forced by Hakeem to penetrate a woman. Both the man and the woman are classified as victims.
The woman was then allegedly raped by Hakeem. The same victim was also allegedly penetrated with a tree branch.

Hakeem is also charged with attempted murder after entering an elderly woman's house in Dandenong and allegedly seriously assaulting her with a knife while raping her. He then stole $185 from the victim as he left her house.

He is also alleged to have used a razor blade to threaten a couple, after which he stole the woman's cigarettes.

According to police documents, Hakeem's crimes took place on the 5th, 10th, 11th and 12th of March.

Defence lawyer Brent Casey asked Magistrate Paul Grant to ensure the fact his client was only 19 and had never been in jail before was reflected in the way he was held in jail.

Mr Grant granted the request, and will pass
on a directive to prison authorities.

He also agreed to a prosecution request for an exten
sion of the usual three-month limit between charges being laid and the matter being dealt with in court.

"Because of the nature of these offences and the need of the investigation, it is taking a little bit longer," Mr Grant told Hakeem.

Hakeem will reappear in the Magistrates Court on July 20 for a committal mention.

Good one Bobster, but it's the fools at the UN and the US government and media promotong this diversh*tty stuff.

little wonder more people are becoming distrustful of their government and other intitutions, like the church; it's because they promote immigrant
s who are unable to assimilate into our culture.

Just try raping a woman with a tree branch, would you even make it into a court room?

Yes, but the churches are taking the bribe money to resettle them. Of course I'm not againt the UN officials taking it up the ass either.

NY Times: Some scandals more important than others
By Thomas Allen

You have to admire the N.Y. Times for its investigative zeal. The paper's online archive lists 12 Postings devoted to a single alleged sexual harassment incident involving U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) head Ruud Lubbers.

The complainant, a 51-year old American woman, subsequently withdrew the charge and
