SALISBURY, NC (WBTV) -
A West Rowan High School student faces felony charges after he was caught with a bag full of food and drinks that he stole from the high school's football stadium concession stand.

According to a report, school resource officer Deputy Walker saw the student leaving the football stadium on Tuesday. When he asked the student what he was doing there, the student replied that he had left his gym bag and went back to get it.

Derome M. Cavitt

Habitual Offender House Burglar Receives 25 Year Prison Sentence

Madison & Rankin Co District Attorney - DA Michael Guest says that Derome M. Cavitt, 31, has been sentenced to serve 25 years for house burglary. Since Cavitt was sentenced as a habitual offender, he will have to serve his sentence day for day without the chance of probation, parole, or early release.

On February 11, 2013, the Flowood Police Department was called to an apartment complex where the occupants of the apartment had arrived to find their apartment burglarized. The officers noted that the suspect had gained entry into the apartment through a front window of the upstairs unit. The unidentified suspect then stole items ranging from cash to sunglasses to a television and video games.

Investigators processed the crime scene and were able to lift a latent print from the window seal. They then submitted the print to the Mississippi Crime Lab to be processed. The finger print was run through an automated fingerprint system that contains the prints of previously convicted criminals, and Cavitt’s print was identified as matching the prints taken from the window of the residence.

The Flowood Police Department was then able to determine that Cavitt was currently on probation with the Mississippi Department of Corrections. Cavitt also had active warrants for his arrest from Hinds County and the Vicksburg Police Department. Officers were able to obtain two addresses for Cavitt but were not able to locate him at either address. The U.S. Marshall’s Service was then notified and they were able to arrest Cavitt the following day.

Cavitt was interviewed following his arrest and he admitted to being at the apartment complex to visit his sister, but he denied breaking into the apartment.

Guest stated, “Home burglary is one of the most intrusive crimes we prosecute because it takes away our sense of privacy and safety. I am glad that the jury after hearing all the evidence returned a verdict that will prevent him violating the safety of others. ”

Cavitt has been previously convicted in 2003 in Hinds County of Strong Arm Robbery. He has been convicted in 2006 in Madison County of Possession of Cocaine. And finally, he has been convicted in 2011, in Hinds County of Possession of Cocaine.

Konter Kelley

Police make arrest in brutal robbery of liquor store

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. —
Pine Lake and DeKalb County police arrested a man they say punched a liquor store owner in the head during a shoplifting attempt and put that owner into a coma.

Police arrested Konter Kelley, 31, late Wednesday afternoon and charged him with the attack on Mensaft Abraham, owner of the American Package Store on Rockbridge Road.

According to investigators, Abraham tried to stop Kelley from stealing a bottle of vodka.

During the confrontation, they said Kelley punched Abraham in the head. The force knocked Abraham down, causing him to hit his head on the floor. They said Kelley got away in a Honda.

Abraham's wife, Lemlem Abraham, said the impact caused severe brain damage. She said he is currently in critical condition in intensive care at Grady Memorial Hospital. She said he remains in a coma and cannot breathe on his own. She said doctors want to run more tests.

Pine Lake Police said one of their officers spotted Kelley's Honda and made a traffic stop. He was arrested shortly afterward and charged with aggravated battery and criminal damage to property.

But police added more charges could be pending, depending on Abraham's recovery.

Abraham's business neighbors were happy to hear about the arrest.

"It was important because we all wanted it," said Spencer Watson. "Now, we can kind of rest and just move on, and hopefully Abraham gets OK."

BEECH GROVE., Ind. (WISH) - An Indianapolis mother was arrested Tuesday after police say she was caught trying to steal 42 items from Walmart by hiding them in her child's seat.

Kyla Price, 20, was arrested and preliminarily charged with theft. She was with her two children, a 1-year-old female and a 3-year-old female.

Reports said a store employee was monitoring the store's video surveillance and saw a woman, later identified as Kyla Price, 20, place several items in a plastic tote including a decorative trash can, diapers and fake nails on the lower rack of a shopping cart. She also concealed a shower curtain behind her daughter who was sitting in a child seat in the cart.

The employee told police Price made her way to the check out counter and paid for items in the cart's basket but did not pay for any items located on the bottom of the cart. As she was leaving, the employee stopped her. When asked why she didn't pay for the items found on the bottom of her cart, she said she was taking them to the layaway area. The employee didn't believe she would put those type of items on layaway and called police. The layaway area was not located in the direction she was heading.

Police say Price was uncooperative during her arrest. They say she had been caught twice before for shoplifting at Walmart.

Investigation into missing items at Halifax Community College has led to three arrests in connection with the ongoing investigation.

Halifax County Interim Sheriff Wes Tripp said the North Carolina State Auditor’s Office initiated the probe in June 2012 after discrepancies were discovered in the college’s inventory of media equipment purchased to assist the institution with updating its instructional methods.

After the auditors confirmed the discrepancies, Tripp said, the college performed its own internal investigation but then turned everything over to the Weldon Police Department June 7, 2012. Tripp said Weldon Police Chief Mark Macon requested the Sheriff’s Office take over the investigation on April 29, 2013.

“We’ve never had a problem asking outside agencies to help us with cases,” Macon said.

“We were never the sole agency investigating the case. The state auditor’s office initiated it but due to our resources and with one of the suspects living out of state we made a request through the D.A.’s office and met with (then-Sheriff Jeff Frazier) and they agreed to take the case.”

Macon said his second-in-command and primary investigator on the case, Capt. James Avens, is a part-time professor at the school as well.

In the interest of disclosure, Tripp said he has “at least six” employees in his office working part-time at the college as well, teaching firearms, Basic Law Enforcement Training as well as other subjects.

Tripp said Capt. Rich Somogyi, Maj. Scott Hall and Chief Deputy Bruce Temple all worked leads in the investigation and did not leave the county.

During the investigation five of nine missing iPads valued at $500 each were recovered, Tripp said.

Tripp said three suspects in the case — former Vice President of Curriculum Dr. Harriett Morrison, 62, of Rutherglen, Va.; current Administrative Assistant Tuwana Jones, 33, of Roanoke Rapids; and former Instructional Designer Shauna Jones, of Roanoke Rapids — turned themselves in at the Sheriff’s Office and were charged with felonious larceny by employee and possession of stolen property.

4 women accused of stealing $15K worth of hair extensions from south Houston shop

HOUSTON – Police say four women captured on camera stealing hair extensions were identified after they reportedly tried to use social media to sell the products.

The hair heist was captured on surveillance camera on Sept. 16 at a shop called Mr. Indian Hair located on Almeda in south Houston.

The shop’s owner Kehlin Farooq said the products he carry are in high demand.

“You have so many celebrities wearing this type of hair now, and a lot of women want that look,” he said.

Farooq said a bundle of human hair costs between $150-$200.

“The average woman wears three for a full head,” he said.

It’s a lucrative business, which is why he is not surprised thieves targeted his store. The surveillance video shows four women walking into the store and talking with the lone employee.

Farooq said they asked his employee, his niece, about a piece of hair that wasn’t on the floor.

“They knew exactly what they were doing,” he said.

When she walked to the back of the store, the video shows three of the women grab several hangars of hair while the fourth woman is seen running out to drive the getaway car.

Farooq said between $15,000 and $20,000 dollars worth of hair was taken.

Despite having surveillance video, he couldn’t identify the thieves. But days later, there was a break in the case thanks to some Good Samaritans who told him his products were being sold on the street and on Instagram.

That tip helped police identify the four suspects.

Gayle Quoquisia and Sherrel Hadnot were arrested. Police are still looking for Alisa Flannagan and Jameisha Kennon.
