Obama Can’t Speak French Or Spanish, But He’s Memorized The Islamic Call To Prayer

The Obama’s Gaffes blog has about the same reaction to the New Yorker cover that I did, and reminded me of this Nicholas Kristof story from last March, in which “In a free-ranging interview with the New York Times, Obama described the Muslim call to prayer as ‘one of the prettiest sounds on Earth at sunset.’ The Times’s Nicholas Kristof wrote, Obama recited, ‘with a first-class [Arabic] accent,’ the opening lines of the Muslim call to prayer. ”

Pretty good for a guy who can’t really speak any foreign language.

The part about “one of the prettiest sounds on Earth at sunset” is just nostalgia–t
he Muslim call to prayer is annoying when it’s not frightening. This is especially true since the muezzins got hold of loudspeakers in the 1950’s. Here’s more of Kristof’s fantasizing about how sophisticated Obama will be as a result of childhood foreign travel:

In foreign policy as well, Mr. Obama would bring to the White House an important experience that most other candidates lack: he has actually lived abroad. He spent four years as a child in Indonesia and attended schools in the Indonesian language, which he still speaks.

“I was a little Jakarta street kid,” he said in a wide-ranging interview in his office…He once got in trouble for making faces during Koran study classes in his elementary school, but a president is less likely to stereotype Muslims as fanatics — and more likely to be aware of their nationalism — if he once studied the Koran with them.

Mr. Obama recalled the opening lines of the Arabic call to prayer, reciting t
hem with a first-rate accent. In a remark that seemed delightfully uncalculated (it’ll give Alabama voters heart attacks), Mr. Obama described the call to prayer as “one of the prettiest sounds on Earth at sunset.”

Moreover, Mr. Obama’s own grandfather in Kenya was a Muslim. Mr. Obama never met his grandfather and says he isn’t sure if his grandfather’s two wives were simultaneous or consecutive, or even if he was Sunni or Shiite. (O.K., maybe Mr. Obama should just give up on Alabama.)

Obama Considers Alternate Sites for Speech

So much for the Brandenburg Gate -- Barack Obama's campaign team is looking at other places for a speech in Berlin. Aside from Gendarmenmarkt, in central Berlin, the soon-to-close Tempelhof Airport has come under consideration.

Tough decisions

They now seem concerned that a speech in front of Berlin's most famous monument would be seen as an attempt to link Obama with higher-profile addresses like the one given by US President Ronald
Reagan, who appeared there in 1987. (President Bill Clinton spoke to Berliners on the same site in 1994.) For a man who so far is just a candidate for the White House, Obama's handlers apparently feel, such a high-profile location could look too ambitious.

Berlin has no lack of other sites for a speech on July 24. Obama's staff has considered three or four alternatives, including Gendarmenmarkt, a central square with twin baroque churches, and Tempelhof Airport, on the edge of the city, which has resonance for Americans as the site of the Berlin Airlift. Members of Obama's team hope to resolve the matter on Wednesday with city officials in Berlin, according to SPIEGEL ONLINE sources.

With the planned speech just over a week away, Berlin officials want to resolve the matter, too. It's an unusually tight time-frame for German bureaucracies. An event of this magnitude "would normally be unthinkable" on such short notice, said one official. City officials have complained that there has still b
een no official request made by Obama's team and that their only knowledge of details about the visit has come from the press.

'Looking Forward to Meeting Him'

Members of the Obama team also have an appointment on Wednesday in Germany's Foreign Ministry, where an itinerary for the visit and security questions will be handled, according to SPIEGEL ONLINE sources. It isn't clear whether his staff will meet with Chancellor Merkel's staff, however.

Merkel responded frostily to the original idea of holding a speech at the Brandenburg Gate. Signals from her office prompted a domestic squabble between Merkel and Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Berlin's Mayor Klaus Wowereit. Steinmeier and Wowereit, both Social Democrats, said they welcomed an Obama speech there. Merkel, a rival Christian Democrat, is suspected by the Foreign Ministry of listening to pressure from President Bush -- a suggestion the chancellor's office denies.

The Germans have tried to dampen their feud
, but there were still signs of tension on Tuesday. "We hope the chancellor's office will finally come to its senses," one top German diplomat told SPIEGEL ONLINE.

Merkel, meanwhile, has protested that she wants to meet Obama. "I'm very much looking forward to meeting him," she said to the mass-market Bild am Sonntag newspaper early this week, "especially since I don't know him yet personally."

Meanwhile, members of Obama's team are also apparently taking into consideration the feathers that got ruffled in Berlin with the initial Brandenburg Gate plan. According to insiders, he has an ear turned to Europe experts in addition to the usual planning experts in order to send the message that he is approaching his visit to Germany differently than a mere stump speech.

Post-parody

Barack Obama may not have turned out to be post-racial after all, but he is staking a claim to be the first post-parodic presidential candidate.

It's very hard to distinguish this parody piece from the Onion on the sheer wonderfulness of Senator Obama from all the straight-faced ones in the mainstream media.


Hailed by media critics as the fluffiest, most toothless, and softest-hitting coverage of the presidential candidate to date, a story in this week's Time magazine is being called the definitive Barack Obama puff piece.

"No news publication has dared to barely scratch the surface like this before," columnist and campaign reporter Michael King wrote in The Washington Post Tuesday. "This profile sets a benchmark for mindless filler by which all other features about
Sen. Obama will now be judged.

I'm truly beginning to hope that Obama wins. I can't wait to see the reaction when he does for the nation what other dynamic, young black leaders have done for large American cities like Detroit.

Combined with the inevitable African invasions - my guess is Zimbabwe, but Congo and Kenya aren't out of the realm of possibility - I think an Obama presidency is probably the best hope for triggering a powerful conservative reaction capable of sweeping the neocons and Brooksian (McCain worker) slow liberals to the side.

To watch the contortions over that New Yorker cover cartoon of the Obamas is to understand whom it is impermissible to offend in the America of 2008.

The cartoon is a caricature of Michelle as an urban terrorist in an Angela Davis afro with an AK-47 slung over her back and a bandoleer of ammo in the Oval Office doing a fist-bump with a Barack decked out in turban and Muslim garb. On the wall hangs a portrait of Osama bin Laden. Blazing away in the fireplace is the American flag.

"President Obama and First Lady -- as Seen From the Right-Wing Point of View" might have been the caption. Phil Klein of American Spectator nailed it: "This cartoon is intended to make fun of conservatives as ignorant racists and essentially marginalize
any criticism of Obama as moronic."

Unfortunately for the New Yorker, the cartoon misfired. Blow-ups are likely to be as pandemic in right-wing dorms this fall as were posters of "Che" Guevara in left-wing dorms in the 1970s.

Indeed, to a goodly slice of the media, this cartoon is no joking matter. Michelle and Barack had been dissed!

For 48 hours, editors Rick Hertzberg and David Remnick fended off attacks, assuring media interrogators the cartoon's purpose was not to satirize the Obamas but to satirize the caricature of Michelle and Barack in the mind of the paranoid right. Remnick insisted to The Huffington Post, "It's not a satire about Obama -- it's a satire about the distortions and misconceptions and prejudices about Obama."

Why did progressives recoil? Because the more savvy among them sense that, like much humor, this cartoon was an exaggeration that contained no small kernel of recognizable truth.

After all, Barack did dump the flag pin. Michel
le did say she had never been proud of her country before now. Barack did don that Ali Baba outfit in Somalia. His father and stepfather were Muslims. He does have a benefactor, Bill Ayers, who said after 9-11 he regrets not planting more bombs in the 1960s. He did have a pastor who lionizes Black Muslim Minister Louis Farrakhan. Put glasses on him, and Barack could play Malcolm X in the movies.

And assume the point of the cartoon had been to satirize the Obamas. Why would that have been so outrageous?

Journalists, after all, still celebrate Herblock, the cartoonist who portrayed Richard Nixon with the body of a rat climbing out of a sewer.

Bill Clinton is still denounced as a racist for saying Barack's claim to have been consistent on Iraq was a "fairy tale" and for comparing his South Carolina primary victory to Jesse Jackson's.

Hillary Clinton has been compared to the sex-starved Glenn Close character in "Fatal Attraction." George Bush's verbal gaffes are en
dlessly panned by late-night comics and Comedy Central. But Barack gets the special-ed treatment. Our first affirmative action candidate. The New Yorker made a "damn-fool decision," said George Lockwood, a lecturer on journalistic ethics.

David West of Brookings wailed to USA Today of the cartoon: "It's the mass media at its worst. It perpetuates false information, and it's highly inflammatory. ... It gives credibility to what's been circulating for months, and that's what makes it dangerous."

But dangerous to whom? Again, it is only a cartoon.

Barack called the cartoon "an insult against Muslim Americans." His campaign called it "tasteless and offensive." That they are miffed is understandable. After all, 12 percent of Americans think Barack took his oath on the Koran, 26 percent think he was raised a Muslim, and 39 percent think he went to a madrassa.

Yet, the reaction of our cultural elites is the more interesting and instructive.

For it suggests that Obama is
an untouchable to be protected. As an African-American, he is not to be treated the same as other politicians. Remnick and Hertzberg obviously felt intense moral pressure to remove any suspicion that they had satirized the Obamas. No problem, however, if they were mocking the American right.

Bottom line: If you wish to stay in the good graces of the cultural elite, don't mess with Michelle and Barack.

On display here is not only the sensitivity of the Obama folks to portrayals of him as a radical, but the sensitivity -- the naked fear -- of an elite magazine that it might be perceived as lending aid and comfort to any who would dare question the nobility and patriotic ardor of the Obamas.

If conservatives allow such a media to determine the weapons they may use and to limit the terrain upon which they are to be permitted to fight, they will lose this election. They have to peel the bark off Barack.

As for the New Yorker, it emerges from the episode as not just unheroic, but ju
st another magazine desperate not to offend its readership or the people whose approbation it seeks as the measure of its moral worth.

Obama to speak at Berlin's Siegessäule on Thursday

Barack Obama will make his Berlin speech in front of the Siegessäule landmark next week, his team has confirmed to the press.

The presumptive Democratic presidential candidate, often hailed as the new John F. Kennedy, is on a foreign tour, which will bring him to Germany on Thursday. He will meet Chancellor Angela Merkel and other top German politicians before making a public speech.

Until now the potential site of his speech has been a matter of speculation and controversy, with Merkel’s office knocking back initial plans to have him speak at the Brandenburg Gate, saying it would be inapprop
riate for the US election campaign to play out at the famous landmark.

Obama’s team decided against Tempelhof airport – the site of the Berlin airlift – and opted for the Siegessäule.

Although the victory column may seem an easy win for the team, it has been criticized by some Berlin politicians such as Fainer Brüderle, deputy chairman of the liberal party FDP.

“The Siegessäule in Berlin was moved from the Reichstag to its current position by Adolf Hitler," he told the Bild am Sonntag. "It was a symbol for German supremacy and victorious wars against Denmark, Austria and France.”��”��

He said he questioned, “if Barack Obama has been well advised to use it as the site of a speech outlining his vision of a world of cooperation.”��”��

Berlin authorities expect Obama to begin his speech at around 7 pm on Thursday, and say they are planning for up to a million people to show up to the Straße des 17. Juni between the Brandenburger Gate and Siegessäule to see him.

ecurity measures are being planned to create an Obama 'fan mile' similar to that set up for hundreds of thousands of people to watch European Championship football matches on big screens in the same area.

According to Livesteez.com, a New York City graduate student is suing the Manhattan boutique owner because when she wore the controversial t-shirt that she bought at his store earlier this week, four teenage girls jumped her, “shoving her, pulling
out her earphones, and spitting in her face.” WOW!



A Jewish-American, Apollo Braun, pictured above, argues that the shirt is just a reflection of how “ordinary WASPs” see Obama. He said, “For a lot of people, when they see Obama, they see a slave. People think America is not ready for a black president.”



But he contends that he’s not racist. Although he admits that he “can’t stand Obama,” he says that the only thing he does like about Obama is his race because “He opens the door for other minorities.”



Umm, okaaaay.

Obama's paid staff dwarfing McCain's

Reports filed with the Federal Election Commission show that in May the campaign had a payroll of about 900, not counting nearly 500 part-time workers who were paid stipends. As of May 31, the Obama campaign staff was well over twice the size of the Bush reelection campaign staff in 2004 and nearly three times the size of McCain's current staff, and has expanded significantly since.

Through the end of May, the Obama campaign had spent $35.7 million on salaries and benefits, triple the $11.9 million spent by the McCain campaign, according to tabulations by the Center for Responsive Politics, a nonpartisan research group.

Obama's labor-intensive strategy will become increasingly expensive, though the campaign took a large step toward its goal by raising $52 million in June after wra
pping up the Democratic nomination. But it will probably have to exceed that figure every month until November to hit its target, and the Democratic National Committee, which announced that it took in $22.4 million last month, faces a similar task to reach a goal of $180 million by the election.

American flag disappears from Obama campaign jet
Candidate's trademark 'O' replaces stars and stripes

As part of a month-long aircraft makeover, a painted American flag was removed from the tail of Sen. Barack Obama's official campaign airplane and was replaced with the presidential candidate's trademark "O" symbol.

The refurbished 757 was unveiled to members of the news media today, 41 of whom boarded the craft and took off to meet Obama in Amman, Jordan, where the presidential candidate will stop as part of a Middle Eastern and European tour.

Obama traveled to the Mideast earlier this week on board a separate airplane.

Fox News blogger Bonny Kapp, traveling on Obama's new airplane, reported:

"The North American jet that fl
ew Obama and his traveling crew around for much of the primary season was refurbished with new seats and power for each passenger a must on the campaign trail. And the plane that once had an American flag on its tail now sports the Obama 'O.'"

Obama's 'O' symbol is red, white and blue.

Most official U.S. government aircraft, including Air Force One, have U.S. flags on their tails.

Both Fox News and the Chicago Sun-Times posted pictures of the Obama campaign's redressed airplane, which does not have an American flag or any other U.S. national symbols on the section that sports the airplane door from which Obama and his team will enter and exit.

The airplane boasts Obama's anthem, "Change We Can Believe In" and the candidate’s website address.

The aircraft also has required identification numbers and a U.S. flag to identify the nationality
of the aircraft.

According to Chicago Sun-Times reporter Lynn Sweet, the refurbished Obama aircraft features a "first class" section for the candidate and his closest advisors; several "business class" seats, and a large coach section, usually meant for the traveling press corps.

Sweet reported fruit and cheese platters greeted reporters on board the flight. Dinner options offered were beef medallions, baked tilapia or eggplant parmesan.

She wrote the Obama campaign provided overnight kits for the flight that include toothbrush, mouthwash, socks, Neutrogena body lotion and lip moisturizer, Scope mouthwash, ear plugs and a blindfold for sleeping.

ANDERSON COUNTY, S.C. -- A South Carolina senator is fielding negative reactions after he posted a picture of Barack Obama and Osama bin Laden with a controversial comment on the state legislative Web site.

S.C. Sen. Kevin Bryant said he "wanted to make people think." But after the public reacted negatively to the image, Bryant said he will take it down.

The image shows bin Laden and Obama with the text: "the difference between Obama and Osama is just a little b.s." :lol:

Bryant said he w
as just trying to start a discussion and to make people think about Obama.

"I don't feel comfortable with this commitment with Israel. I don't feel comfortable with his commitment with the war on terror. And I feel like those things are worthy of discussion."

He said he didn't "compare the two."

The image with text was posted without any additional comment. When asked why he did it, Bryant said, "I think putting things on my blog to allow people to draw their own conclusions is a good thing."

WYFF took to the streets to ask people, both Democrats and Republicans, what they thought of the posting.

The comments ranged from "stupid" to "not a good idea."

Jeremy Mueller, of Anderson, said, "I'm a McCain supporter myself. I'm not going to vote for Obama. But I don't appreciate that."

Candidate for S.C. Senate Marshall Meadors said, "I think it is highly insensitive to the racial and cultural issues that we as a country -- we as a state -- have been trying so h
ard to overcome for the last several generations. I think it is a degree of ignorance as to what the important issues are."

Bryant said that he is going to remove the picture from the Web site, but he said that he still stands by his decision to post it in the first place.
 
Obama Hits a Wall! Will Media Highlight MAJOR Obama Gaffe in Berlin Speech?

Obama's speech today in Berlin, hailed as a "major" address, has at least one major, glaring error that shows that nether Obama nor his handlers and speech writers were thoroughly familiar with the facts. Obama's main theme was about the "walls" that separate all of us one from another. He claims that many of these "walls" have been taken down and hails that as progress. But in at least one instance he is wrong. In fact more walls have been built where Obama claimed they were taken down.

First the relevant section of Obama's misconception (my bold for emphasis):

The walls between old all
ies on either side of the Atlantic cannot stand. The walls between the countries with the most and those with the least cannot stand. The walls between races and tribes; natives and immigrants; Christian and Muslim and Jew cannot stand. These now are the walls we must tear down.

We know they have fallen before. After centuries of strife, the people of Europe have formed a Union of promise and prosperity. Here, at the base of a column built to mark victory in war, we meet in the center of a Europe at peace. Not only have walls come down in Berlin, [B]but they have come down in Belfast, where [/B][B]Protestant and Catholic found a way to live together[/B]; in the Balkans, where our Atlantic alliance ended wars and brought savage war criminals to justice; and in South Africa, where the struggle of a courageous people defeated apartheid.

Obama claims that the walls built to separate Protestant from Catholic have come down in Belfast. Well, in fact, they have not. In reality MORE ARE BEING BUILT all
the time.

As a May 5th USA Today story chronicles, "Ten years after peace was declared in Northern Ireland, one might have expected that Belfast's barriers would be torn down by now. But reality, as usual, is far messier. Not one has been dismantled. Instead they've grown in both size and number."

Ronald Reagan was able to get Mr. Gorbechev to tear down those walls, but it seems Mr. Obama can't even get it straight if they exist or not!

So, where is the fawning, sycophantic media to lambast Obama's ignorance here?

I won't hold my breath.

Nurture this candidate in an atmosphere of anti-white American teaching and surround him with Islamic teachers.

Provide him with a bitter, racist, anti-white, anti-American wife, and supply him with Muslim middle east connections and Islamic monies.

Allow him to be clever enough to get away with his anti-white rhetoric and proclaim he will give $834 billion taxpayer dollars to the Muslim controlled United Nations for use in Africa .

Install your candidate in an atmosphere of deception because questioning him on any issue involving Africa or Islam would be seen as ”�’bigoted racism’; two words too powerful to allow the citizenry to be informed of facts.

Allow your candidate to employ
several black racist Nation of Islam Louis Farrakhan followers as members of his Illinois Senatorial and campaign staffs.

Where is the bloodhound American ”�’free press’ who doggedly overturned every stone in the Watergate case?

Where are our nation’s reporters that have placed every Presidential candidate under the microscope of detailed scrutiny; the same press who pursue Bush’s ”�’Skull and Bones’ club or ran other candidates off with persistent detective and research work?

Why haven’t ”�’newsmen’ pursued the 65 blatant lies told by this candidate during the Presidential primaries?

Where are the stories about this candidate’s cousin and the Muslim butchery in Africa ?

Why isn’t the American press telling us this candidate is supported by every Muslim organization in the world?

As an ultimate slap in the face, be blatant in the fact your candidate has ZERO interest in traditional American values and has the most liberal voting record in U.S. Senate history.

Why has the American main stream media clammed-up on any negative reporting on Barak Hussein Obama?

Why will they print Hillary Rodham Clinton’s name but never write his middle name? Is it not his name?

Why, suddenly, is ANY information about this candidate not coming from main stream media, but from the blogos
phere by citizens seeking facts and the truth? Why isn’t our media connecting the dots with Islam?

Why do they focus on ”�’those bad American soldiers’ while Islam slaughters non Muslims daily in 44 countries around the globe?

There is terrorism we can see, smell and fear, but there is a new kind of terror invading The United States in the form of Sharia law and finance. Condoning it is civilization suicide.
Middle East Muslims are coming to America in record numbers and building hate infidel mosques, buying our corporations, suing us for our traditions, but they and the whole subject of Islam is white noise leaving uninformed Americans about who and what is really peaceful.

Any criticism of Islam or their intentions, even though Islamic leaders state their intentions daily around the globe, brings-forth a volley of ”�’racist’ from the left-wing Democrat crowd. Lies and deception behind a master plan - the ingredients for
”�’The Manchurian Candidate’ or the placement of an anti-American President in our nation’s White House?


Is it mere coincidence that an anti-capitalist run for President at the same time Islamic sharia finance and law is trying to make advancing strides into the United States ?

Is it mere coincidence this same candidate wants to dis-arm our nuclear capability at a time when terrorist Muslim nations are expanding their nuclear weapons capability?

Is it mere coincidence this candidate wants to reduce our military at a time of global jihad from Muslim nations? Change for America?

What change? To become another ”�’nation of Islam’?
