Man busted for second DWI in two weeks by same cop
By Philip Messing
May 27, 2016 | 2:25pm

A Newark motorist displayed bad judgment — and worse timing — when he was arrested near the Holland Tunnel for DWI early Friday by a Port Authority cop who busted him for the same offense two weeks ago, authorities say.

The latest incident occurred at 4:15 a.m. when Jose Guallpa-Bravo, 29, was behind the wheel of a 2004 Hyundai with a defective tail light near the Holland Tunnel, in Jersey City, and was spotted swerving in traffic and crossing over a solid white line, sources say.

Port Authority Police Officer Rhett Peppi followed Guallpa-Bravo’s vehicle and pulled him over at 14th Street, near the tunnel entrance, at which point he volunteered that Peppi was the same cop who busted him for DWI near the same location on May 13.

This time, police say, Guallpa-Bravo asked for “another chance,” but when Officer Peppi spotted the suspect’s red and glassy eyes, he instead administered sobriety tests, which the motorist failed.

Guallpa-Bravo, of Newark, was charged with DWI and reckless driving.

A boozed-up off-duty city sanitation worker with two kids in the car was pulled over in Brooklyn early Saturday – then tried to pose as a cop to arresting officers, sources said.

Vellnet Veliu was spotted by police running several red lights about 12:30 a.m. near Bedford Avenue and Lenox Road in Prospect Lefferts Gardens, police sources said.

When officers stopped him they noticed two minors in the backseat – ages 5 and 7 – along with an odor of alcohol.

Veliu showed the cops a fake shield – and slurred that he was cop, sources said.

Cops slapped cuffs on Veliu and charged him with criminal impersonation, DWI and failure to obey traffic signal.

DUI suspect drove a mile with victim lodged in windshield

A California beaness on an all-night drinking bender slammed her car into a transient — then drove for nearly a mile with his battered corpse stuck in her windshield, according to reports.

Esteysi Sanchez, 29, also known as Stacy Sanchez, had been out boozing at several bars in Oceanside, Calif., until the early hours Monday when she got into her Pontiac sedan and started driving home, the Washington Post said.

When Sanchez reached Mission Avenue, she accelerated and her car barreled into the victim, a neighborhood hobo who was either walking to or from a local soup kitchen, KGTV reported.

It was unclear if the victim was in the street or on the sidewalk at the time of the collision.

The impact tore off one of the man’s legs, which catapulted through a back window, landing on the trunk of the vehicle, the Washington Post reported.

The rest of the man’s carcass flipped onto the windshield, shattering the glass and leaving him “impaled into the vehicle” with the top of his head lying on the passenger seat, the Washington Post said.

Sanchez kept driving for another three-quarters of a mile with the corpse lodged in her windshield, the Washington Post said.

She even drove up onto the sidewalk and crashed through some landscaping before she stopped in a cul-de-sac, jumped out and alerted someone in a nearby home, KGTV reported.

Sanchez then allegedly went home and told her husband, who called the Oceanside Police Department.

Investigators arrested Sanchez after she confessed to driving while intoxicated, the Washington Post said. Sanchez was charged with felony DUI and vehicular manslaughter.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Rookie Cop Faces Criminal Charges For Fatal Off-Duty Car Crash
October 20, 2016 10:04 AM
By David Madden and Cleve Bryan

MOUNT HOLLY, N.J. (CBS) — A Burlington Township police officer is facing a charge of vehicular homicide after a car crash last month in Florence Township.

Officer Justin Rodriguez was off duty when his Acura Integra struck a utility pole on West Front Street in Florence Township just after 2 a.m. on September 23.

The crash killed the lone passenger with him, 27-year-old sheboon Ariana Williams of Florence. “It’s like a nightmare. Everyday you just hope that she’s going to somehow come back through the door, but we know it’s not happening,” said her mother, Chavella Williams.

Toxicology shows the 25-year-old Rodriguez had consumed what Burlington County investigators label “an excessive amount of alcohol” before the accident.

“There’s days I don’t want to get up, but I can hear her say ‘Tat go on.’ I can hear that, I can truly feel her around me,” said Tatiana Williams of her late twin sister. “It’s been terrible, it’s like I have a hole in my heart,” Ronald Williams, their father said.

The 11 month veteran of the Burlington Township force had been on desk duty since the crash.

He is now suspended without pay, and is free on $50,000 bail as the case proceeds to a grand jury.

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Police say a 17-year-old male and a 23-year-old man have been charged following a street racing crash in Kensington that killed a three-year-old girl.

Authorities say the vehicle left the scene of the accident back on August 8.

Three-year-old Esther Palmer died after she was ejected through the rear door window when the vehicle she was in with her mother and grandmother was struck.

Police say the striking vehicle was involved in a street race southbound on 2nd Street and the driver had “no regards for vehicles or pedestrians.”

The crash happened on North 2nd Street, at West York Street. Police say a 17-year-old in a silver sedan struck another car going westbound on York.

Authorities say the driver of the dark-colored vehicle fled the scene.

Officials released surveillance video to get the public’s help in identifying the driver.

Police say the driver eventually came forward, provided information and surrendered the vehicle, a 2000 Honda Accord.

As a result a 17-year-old, who cannot be identified because of his age, and 23-year-old Hector Torres Jr. have been charged with involuntary manslaughter, homicide by vehicle, accident death (no license), and aggravated assault by vehicle.

The 55-year-old woman pinned under the car of an unlicensed driver who drunkenly plowed into her and three other cyclists during a city bike tour Sunday is now in a coma, prosecutors said Monday.

The news of Nancy Pease’s devastating injuries came as Antonio Pina was arraigned on DWI and vehicular assault charges. He was held on $250,000 bond by Brooklyn criminal court justice Joseph McCormack.

Pina stood dumbstruck and cuffed as prosecutors detailed how doctors had removed Pease’s spleen, and that she had suffered traumatic brain injury, a lacerated liver, and other injuries. She remains comatose at Maimonides Medical Center, prosecutor Wilfredo Cotto said.

Pina slammed into a group of 25 to 30 bikers taking part in the 28th Annual NYC Century Bike Tour, as they stopped at a red light around 9:15 a.m., cops and witnesses said.

A Coors Light beer can was recovered in his car, after Pina told cops, “No, I don’t have a license and yes, I was drinking,” Cotto told the court. “I last drank alcohol around 2 a.m., I had a few margaritas,” he allegedly added.

He then reached over into the glove box, telling officers it wasn’t his car, and handing over the registration and other paperwork.

Cotto said the driver, who works in construction , blew a .287 blood alcohol content in a Breathalyzer test administered at the scene.

Defense attorney Leah Martin said Monday Pena had no criminal record.

He’s slotted to return to court Sept. 15.

An allegedly drunken, unlicensed driver rammed four bicyclists with his car at a stop light in Brooklyn Sunday— knocking them “over like dominoes” and critically injuring one.

The riders were waiting for the light to change on 12th Avenue at 39th Street in Borough Park at around 9:15 a.m. when Antonio Pina pulled his car out of a parking spot, stopped behind them for a few moments, then suddenly accelerated and plowed through the group, authorities said.

“He just turned into the bikers and started knocking them over like dominoes. It was a horrible scene,” said Justianna Kubersky, who was participating in the 28th Annual NYC Century Bike Tour organized by bicycle-advocacy group Transportation Alternatives. “We were just out for a peaceful Sunday bike ride and then it just went crazy.”

One victim Brandon Painter, 31, first feared it was part of a terror attack because of recent international events.

“I thought of Barcelona and Nice,” he told The Post by phone, referring to the vehicle attacks. “I saw a man completely take us over. I couldn’t get out.

“I saw he had a crazy look on his face. It was almost deranged. The look matched the action he just did.”

The driver then stopped and reversed his car, backing over 55-year-old Nancy Pease and pinning her underneath, according to witnesses.

“I ran down and saw she was pinned under the front passenger tire. It was terrible,” said local resident Hector Mercado, 43.

“She was twisted unnaturally. Her right arm was wrapped around her head. People were trying to pull her out from under the car but we told them to stop and wait for the fire department, who responded very quickly,” he said.

Other cyclists and bystanders who witnessed the incident pulled the driver from the car and held him on the ground until police arrived, witnesses said.

“When he got out of his car, he was just looking, like he wasn’t processing it,” said cyclist Robinson Hernandez, 43, who was also hit.

“This guy had drunk, bloodshot eyes.”

Pease was taken to Maimonides Medical Center in serious condition, sources said.

Painter went to the same hospital with bruises on his hands, elbows, knees and back.

Hernandez and a fourth victim declined medical attention.

Pina was given a Breathalyzer test, arrested and later charged with vehicular assault, driving while ability impaired and unlicensed operation, police said.

“Every New Yorker who rides a bike deserves to be able to travel safely and free from harm,” said Transportation Alternatives director Paul Steely White.

“Our thoughts are with the family of the victim, and we are praying for her speedy recovery.”

Drunk city transit worker ran stop signs, crashed into car: cop
By Amanda Woods
September 23, 2017 | 10:06pm

A city transit worker drunkenly blew through stop signs and red lights and then smashed into another car in Queens Saturday morning, police said.

MTA maintenance worker Starlin Sanchez was driving near 187th Place and Jamaica Avenue in Hollis at 3:10 a.m. when officers saw him careening past the stop signs and lights, and then hitting another occupied car, cops said.

The driver of the other vehicle was not injured, police said.

Sanchez, 26, was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and a traffic device infraction for disobeying a red light, cops said.

Sanchez wasn’t the only city employee busted early Saturday.

Around 2 a.m., cops arrested NYPD school crossing guard Olga Perez, 70, for allegedly whacking her 54-year-old husband with a broomstick during a squabble in their Staten Island home, cops said.

Her hubby’s injuries were minor. Perez was charged with assault, according to police.

Illegal Immigrant Accused of Running over Man in Drunk Hit-and-Run
by John Binder
13 Oct 2017Raleigh, NC665

An illegal immigrant is now facing felony charges after allegedly running over a Raleigh, North Carolina, man in a hit-and-run car accident while intoxicated.
Carlos Edilberto Flores-Benitez, 27, allegedly ran over a man while he was drinking and driving, police and eyewitnesses say, according to WNCN. Police reports claim the illegal immigrant hit the man at an intersection and then immediately sped off from the scene.

When police responded, Flores-Benitez was cornered into his vehicle by eyewitnesses who reportedly watched the incident.

In their police report, officers said the victim suffered “serious injuries, but he’s not gonna die.”

Flores-Benitez faces a felony hit-and-run felony charge and a drunk driving charge. Should he be released from prison at any time, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is expected to deport him back to his native country.

The car crash by Flores-Benitez is the latest crime from an individual who entered the U.S. illegally.

This week, Breitbart Texas reported first on a 19-year-old illegal immigrant and protectee of the federal Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program–created by President Obama–who is accused of murdering a teenage girl in Greenville, South Carolina.

Daniel De Jesus Rangel Sherrer, who has been able to remain in the U.S. because of DACA , is accused of murdering 18-year-old Diana Martinez-Gonzalez in a secluded, wooded area.

Sherrer is now facing first-degree murder charges. More than 2,100 illegal alien DACA recipients were kicked from the program for crimes and gang affiliations.

An allegedly drunken driver charged with murdering a Brooklyn man by dragging him under his van for two blocks was sprung on $50,000 bail.

David Cruz, 55, was arraigned Saturday by Judge Robin Sheares in the Thursday night incident that killed a 69-year-old Coney Island man.

“This judge is putting the public in danger by releasing this murder suspect, and she set such low bail that he could well flee to evade justice. Her decision is shocking and irresponsible,” a law-enforcement source told The Post.

But Cruz’s lawyer, Michael Farkas, argues the Bay Ridge run-in that left victim Gavriel Mardakhayev dead wasn’t murder at all.

“This case appears to have been overcharged. What happened here was tragic, but not intentional. It was not murder,” Farkas said in a statement.

“Just from listening to the witnesses who spoke with the media, and looking at the video of a portion of the event, it is entirely likely that Mr. Cruz did not realize that he had struck, much less dragged, someone,” he claimed.

The tragedy unfolded Thursday around 9:15 p.m. when Cruz hit Mardakhayev’s silver sedan with his white 2012 Ford E350 van and drove off, police said.

Enraged, Mardakhayev followed Cruz and cornered him at the intersection of Third Avenue and 65th Street in Bay Ridge. It is unclear how far Mardakhayev chased Cruz.

When the Brooklyn resident got out of his car to confront Cruz about the fender-bender, Cruz allegedly mowed him down and dragged him underneath his car for two blocks before stopping at Third Avenue and 67th Street, cops said.

Cruz was arrested and had a blood alcohol level of 0.109 percent four hours later, according to a criminal complaint. The legal standard for drunken driving in New York is 0.08 percent.

He was charged with second-degree murder, drunken driving and reckless driving.

The victim died at NYU Lutheran Medical Center in Brooklyn.

Cruz, who worked as a project manager for a commercial construction company, was described as a “quiet” and “respectful” man by his roommate.

“I’m shocked. I never saw him get mad about anything,” said Khalil Jabrane, 30, who lived with Cruz in an apartment in Bay Ridge for several months. “He listened to music a lot, so he pretty much stayed in his room. He never bothered me.”

Cruz “is devastated that his actions may have caused the death of another human being, and he offers his sincere condolences to the victim’s family,” Farka said.
