Tvedt denies racism charges

Tore W Tvedt, the 63-old-leader of a group most Norwegians view as decidedly racist, denied violating Norway's laws against racism when his trial started on Thursday.
Tvedt is charged with racism and anti-Semitism for remarks he made to newspaper VG in 2003. He was quoted as saying his group, called Vigrid, wanted to assume power in Norway and that that all Jews "must be wiped out," since they were the alleged enemy.
Tvedt, however, claims he's just a "good, Norwegian pastor" w
ho lives free of charge at the home of a friend in Larvik in exchange for working as the friend's chauffeur. He claims he was misquoted in VG.
The divorced former karate instructor has devoted himself to working for the members of Vigrid, a secretive society best known for espousing notions of white supremacy and anti-Semitism. Its members are known for being "baptized" wearing white robes in the woods, and some believe the group resembles the Ku Klux Klan in the US.
Tvedt testified in court Thursday that he has no income, fortune or work other than being a chauffeur for his friend.
