Attempted Kidnapping

A 5 year old McAllen girl is safe tonight after being kidnapped early this morning, through a bedroom window.

Luckily, the girl's mom caught Jorge Alberto Escobar in the act. Family members tackled Escobar and he was arrested by police down the street.

The girl was not harmed.

The kidnapping happened shortly after midnight on the 600 block of Kennedy Avenue, in south McAllen.

Family members were unavailable for comment. But, neigbors say they are relieved that the intruder has been arrested.

"Oh. well yeah. We don't need any pervert, around here," said Jerry Harris. "And that's pretty brazen to go into someone's window and grab ahold of them like that."

Turns out Escobar is someone the family knows. Escobar is an illegal immigrant who was living in an adjoining room and who worked with the victim's father.

He's charged with aggravated kidnapping and his bond is set at half a million dollars.

E-Mail Warns Residents About Tree Trimmer Imposter
POSTED: 9:56 pm CDT September 13, 2007
UPDATED: 8:40 am CDT September 14, 2007

SAN ANTONIO -- Residents of a North Side subdivision are on edge after receiving an e-mail that warned them to watch out for a potential predator posing as a tree trimmer.

According to the e-mail, a mother stated that she was alone with her daughters Wednesday when a man asked her to open her door.

When she refused to open the door, the man started banging on her window,
according to the e-mail.

The woman stated in the e-mail that the man didn't leave until she threatened to call police.

Residents around Braun Subdivision said they've started posting fliers that warn neighbors to beware of a man who allegedly tried to force his way into a home.

Police officials said they charged 34-year-old Jesus Cruz with burglary assault in July on suspicion of posing as a tree trimmer.

According to police reports, Cruz tried to touch a girl inappropriately after telling her that he worked for J.C. Tree Trimming and was looking for work.

The girl pushed Cruz out of the doorway and slammed the door behind her, according to the report.

Police said they eventually arrested Cruz, but he was later released from jail.

Officers said they don't know of anyone else besides Cruz who has tried to force their way into a home by posing as a tree trimmer.

Police warn families to tell their children to not open the door for strangers.

Kidnapping attempt puts LeTourneau campus on alert
Woman lured student into vehicle
Wednesday, September 12, 2007

LONGVIEW — A recent attempted kidnapping on the LeTourneau University campus has university security and students on the lookout for a woman in a red Ford SUV.

School officials believe the incident is related to a report of suspicious activity filed two weeks ago.

On Monday, a woman described as Hispanic, in her 30s and about 5 feet, 5 inches tall, approached a male student and asked him for help finding the apartments for married students.

She asked the student to get into her SUV and lead her to the apartments, said Doug Wilcoxson, vice president of student affairs. Once the student was in the vehicle, she locked the doors and sped off toward the campus exit.

Wilcoxson said the student was able to unlock the door and escape when the woman braked for a biker in the road.

"We don't really know her intentions," Wilcoxson said Tuesday afternoon.

There was no indication that the woman had a weapon, campus security reported.

Officials believe she is the same person who stopped a small number of students near Gilbert Hall, an on-campus dorm, on Aug. 29. She also asked them for directions to the married student apartments.

In both incidents, the woman was in a red SUV and spoke broken English, Wilcoxson said.

"This is someone we don't know," he said, explaining that the woman did not have a LeTourneau parking sticker on her vehicle.

"This is just real unusual for us to have to face, but it's something we certainly want students to be aware of," Wilcoxson said.

A security notice was e-mailed to students Monday.

Police Officer Indicted, Accused Of Sex With Teens

POSTED: 6:38 am CDT September 13, 2007
UPDATED: 8:24 am CDT September 13, 2007

BROWNWOOD, Texas -- A former Brownwood policeman accused of sex acts with two teenage girls has been indicted.

Officials said the teens were involved in the department's Police Explorers youth education program, which the veteran policeman started.

The indictments against 54-year-old Sgt. Vince Ariaz were made public Tuesday.

One alleges 27 counts of sexual assault of a child and two additional counts of indecency with a child -- all with the same 15-year-old. The other indictment alleges one count of indecency with a child with a 16-year-old.

Ariaz, who had been with the department 17 years, was arrested July 17 after officers on surveillance allegedly witnessed him engaging in a sex act with the 15-year-old.

The city suspended him indefinitely, then later rescinded that action and allowed him to retire Aug. 14 as part of a settlement in which he agreed not to appeal the suspension.

Ariaz was released from jail on Aug. 16 after posting $200,000 bond, but a judge ordered Ariaz confined to his home and placed him on electronic monitoring.

Ariaz couldn't immediately be reached for comment.

Ariaz started the department's Explorers program, which teaches youths about law enforcement careers, in 2000 and supervised it until his arrest.

6-Year-Old Raped; DNA Studied

UPDATED: 8:38 pm PDT October 19, 2007

PHOENIX -- Phoenix police made an arrest last week that has Chandler detectives wondering if an elusive serial rapist is now in jail on other charges.

14379553_240X180.jpg

Police arrested Eladio Reza-Reza, 30, on Oct. 12 on charges of child molestation, sexual misconduct with a minor and burglary.

Reza is accused of entering a south Phoenix apartment at 2:30 a.m. through an unlocked door and sexually assaulting a sleeping 6-year-old girl.

The girl's 11-year-old brother was sleeping in the living room with her and woke to find Reza raping his sister, according to a probable cause statement.

The statement says the boy screamed, waking his mother and stepfather, who chased Reza to his car.

According to the statement, the parents detained Reza in his car, naked, until police arrived. Police said they found his underwear in the living room.

Reza was arrested and admitted to police that he had raped the girl, according to the statement.

Court paperwork shows Reza was intoxicated when the rape occurred.

"It's scary," said Nanette Tarin, the girl's aunt.

"At night I can't sleep. Every little bump I hear at night I'd wake my husband up to go see," she said.

The victim required medical treatment after the attack, according to court paperwork.

"I never thought things could happen so close to home," Tarin said.

Reza is an illegal immigrant and is being held without bond by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. He is not allowed to have contact with anyone under 18.

Chandler detectives are awaiting information from Phoenix police as well as a DNA test to determine whether Reza could be the man responsible for raping five Chandler girls.

In the Chandler rapes, the attacker assaulted the victims in their own homes. Most were single-parent homes, which he entered through unlocked doors. All of the attacks occurred within a few blocks of each other; the most recent was in June.

Chandler police stressed that their search for the serial rapist is not over and said this development underscores how big a priority the case has been for police departments across the Valley.

Police: Man Lures Teens From School Yard

POSTED: 10:55 am PDT October 19, 2007
UPDATED: 2:52 pm PDT October 19, 2007

YUMA, Ariz. -- A 24-year-old man has been booked on suspicion of sexual exploitation for trying to lure three males, ages 16, 17 and 21, from a school yard, police say.

14379056_240X180.jpg

Francisco Vallejo of San Luis was arrested during a traffic stop in Yuma on Thursday.

Officers said the first incident occurred on Oct. 5 when Vallejo, driving by Cibola High School in Yuma, threw a sexually explicit note to a 17-year-old male from his vehicle. The teen reported the incident to authorities.

Police said the second incident happened in the same area three days later. This time, Vallejo called a 16-year-old boy over to his truck and displayed a pornographic movie on a digital camera, investigators said.

Vallejo attempted to give the victim a note, but the victim declined to take it, according to officers.

On Oct. 11, a 21-year-old man reported Vallejo threw a sexually explicit note to him in the same area as the others.

Vallejo was arrested on charges of luring a minor for sexual exploitation, furnishing harmful items to a minor and loitering.

Police said they are concerned there may be other victims. Students or others who may have been victimized are asked to call Detective Miguel Sanchez at 928- 373-4670 or 78-CRIME to remain anonymous.

Day laborer sought for sexual assault of mentally challenged teen

12:02 AM CDT on Saturday, October 27, 2007

torres_2936-t240.jpg

Dario Martinez Torres is the only suspect in the case. Seabrook police say something terrible happened in their community. They say a 17-year-old mentally challenged girl was sexually assaulted inside her home.

There is a search underway and, as a result of the attack, the community is on edge.

“We don't want this to happen again,”” said Sgt. Dave Imbrie of the Seabrook Police Department. “We need him identified and brought in.””

The suspect in the case is 38-year-old Dario Martinez Torres, a day laborer who police believe the unsuspecting girl allowed inside her home.

“I think this is somebody we all need to be concerned about out in the community,”” said Imbrie.

We spoke to the teen's mother. She was too distraught to go on camera, but she tells us the man lived with friends just a few doors away from her home.

The mother says she came home and found Torres inside and her daughter was unclothed.

That's when she says Torres ran out and fled on foot.

Flyers showing photos of Torres have been placed across the small Seabrook community. Police think he may be hiding out here or he could have fled to Mexico.

In this suburban community, neighbors now feel a shaken sense of security.

“I think it's terrible I never heard of such a thing in this place,”” said Denny Banks

The girl’s mother said she left daughter alone in the home for just 20 minutes.

And has always told her to not open the door for strangers. But this suspect was not a stranger in this complex.

Police are offering a $1,000 reward for Torres capture.

Man Tries To Lure Girls At Bus Stop

POSTED: 3:41 pm MST November 16, 2007
UPDATED: 6:35 pm MST November 16, 2007

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- A man driving a newer white pickup truck made repeated attempts to lure two middle school students into his vehicle before he finally gave up and drove away, Scottsdale police said.

Two girls, ages 13 and 14, walked to a bus stop near 106th Street and Cholla Drive around 8:25 a.m. Friday to meet with friends and wait for the bus, police said.

Officers said a man about 35 to 45 years old drove past them on Cholla Street three to four times in a five- or ten-minute period. Each time, he was staring at the girls, which made them uncomfortable, investigators said.

On the fourth or fifth pass by, officers said the driver stopped at 106th Street and began talking with the pair, asking them whether they had lost a dog,
according to police.

The driver then asked if they needed help finding their dog or if they needed a ride to school, officer said. When the girls replied no, the motorist drove away.

The students described the driver as an Hispanic man with a medium to heavy build. He had medium to dark tan skin and very short buzz-cut brown hair with unknown eye color, according to police.

The students described the vehicle as a newer white pickup with a business logo or sticker on the driver side panel. One student reported a ladder sticking out of the back of the bed of the truck. Another student reported some kind of wooden tool sticking out of the back of the bed of the truck.

No license plate was seen by either student.

Student Fights Off Would-Be Abductor
Last Modified: 11/21/2007 12:07:36 AM

DeKalb County parents of students at Tucker Middle School are being warned not to let their kids walk home alone -- this after a student there had to fight off an abduction attempt on Monday, stabbing her attacker with the only weapon she had: a pencil.

The street outside Tucker Middle School is almost always busy with traffic. Despite that, on Monday night, during rush hour, two men in a van tried to snatch a female student as she walked home from school.

"Apparently she just resisted, and she was able to use an object she had, and was able use that object on one of the subjects and they let her go," said M.T. Hodge of the DeKalb County Police Department.

While police continue their investigation, residents who frequent the area remain on edge -- especially young women.

"It's just scary out here now. You don't know what to think when you're walking down the street," said anybody could try to snatch you up," said one student.

Because of that, parents with students at the school received a letter warning them not to let their kids leave school alone.

"I think it's just unbelievable," said parent Cordelia Permenter. "That's why I bring my child to school and I pick my child up. I don't let her walk out by herself. It's just unbelievable too close to home."

The suspects are described as a black male, six-foot-two-inches tall, 180 pounds, bald with a muscular build and wearing a white tee. The other suspect is described as a Hispanic male, five-foot-eight-inches tall, 140 pounds, wearing a gray sweatshirt, and with flame tattoos on his arms.

The pair was driving a black van with rails on the roof.

"Just be extra careful of a vehicle approaching them," said Hodge. "And don't approach the vehicle unless they know the person driving it, and to do what this young lady did. She fought back -- she screamed, and was able to alert other people that this was going on."

Some of her friends think it's possible the suspects may have actually been stalking the girl, because they had seen the van before, and the men cruising in search of the girl they called "the dancer."

The girl is apparently a member of a dance team.

Latrino Too Retarded For Death Penalty!

Retarded Enough To Molest And Kill Third Grader

Hellcat 4/1/04:
A Morris County grand jury has voted that Porfirio Jimenez is eligible for the death penalty for the alleged murder and attempted sexual assault of a 10-year-old boy in Morristown in 2001.

The seven-count indictment handed up Tuesday against the 39-year-old landscaper supersedes a grand jury indictment returned on Sept. 26, 2001, against Jimenez for the May 20, 2001, slaying of Walter Contreras Valenzuela.

The defense team for accused child killer Porfirio Jimenez said they would not allow Jimenez to plead guilty to the 2001 murder of a 10-year-old boy today because they are not convinced he understands the ramifications of a sentence of life without parole sentence.

Expectations had been high that Jimenez would accept a plea deal, and Walter Contreras Valenzuela's parents were in the front row of the Morristown courtroom to hear it.

But defense attorney Joseph Krakora said he would not recommend the judge accept a guilty plea for a client "who has a legitimate claim of mental retardation at this time and place in the state of New Jersey.''

Morris County Assistant Prosecutor John McNamara Jr. pointed out that the defense team came to the prosecutor's office with a proposed plea offer 10 days ago, and Prosecutor Robert A. Bianchi accepted it. With Jimenez ' rejection of it, the judge should set a trial date in early 2008, McNamara said.

"A jury is going to decide what that man did to that little boy,'' McNamara said.

Jimenez, 42, is accused of beating Valenzuela to death with a gardening tool on May 20, 2001, to keep the third-grader from telling anyone that Jimenez tried to have sex with him. The child's body was found two days later, and Jimenez was arrested June 7, 2001, after a DNA sample linked him to the slaying.

Superior Court Judge Salem Ahto said he expects to set a pre-trial conference in mid-January. That would mark a plea cutoff date.

Meanwhile, Ahto will have to consider a request by the defense that the judge rule Jimenez is mentally retarded and therefore ineligible for the death penalty. If Ahto declines to do that, a second defense motion calls for barring the prosecution from presenting two experts at trial to testify Jimenez is not retarded.

Mentally retarded defendants cannot be executed in the United States. New Jersey's highest court this year ruled capital murder defendants have the burden of proof but need only to convince a single juror to have the death penalty eliminated as a punishment option.

Execution may be off the table by next month anyway: The state Assembly intends to vote on repealing the state's death penalty law and replacing it with life without chance of parole.
